Data Collection and Research is responsible for collecting data from UVU’s community and Alumni, including current students, former students, employees, and community members. These data collection efforts most often take the form of institutional surveys which are administered through the web or by our student-staffed Survey Research Center over the phone. Data Collection and Research also conducts regular focus groups for deeper dives into specific topics.
Associate Director
Taylor Lovell
Taylor is responsible for survey analysis and reporting, specifically with graduating students, alumni, employees, community employers, and others. He is responsible for administering and providing support for the survey software Qualtrics. He is also responsible for developing several Tableau dashboards for clients across campus.
Senior Research Analyst
John Whitney
John specializes in research and analysis projects using SPSS, Stata, or R, and is responsible for conducting program impact assessments using Illume Impact and propensity score analysis. Additionally, John develops dashboards and reports in Power BI, conducts geographic analysis and mapping using ESRIs GIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey 123, Quick Capture, etc.), and develops SQL queries in both the ODS and Azure environments. John has also been a frequent collaborator on SRI research and has experience in qualitative analysis.
Research Analyst
Austin Lynn
Austin is responsible for survey analysis and reporting, focusing on surveying current students and helping facilitate focus groups on campus. He also supports student efforts to increase data and survey literacy through efforts such as providing samples to students conducting surveys on campus. He is excited to help interested parties improve their own surveys and research by collaborating on focus group research and improving data collection efforts. Recently, Austin has worked closely with the Campus Climate initiative, Physician’s Assistant program, and Student Advising to help fulfill their data collection needs. Austin’s main project is the Student Opinion Survey, a recurring project that helps collect data from students for different UVU entities.

Erika Gunn
Erika leads the Survey Research Center and manages a small team of student employees, overseeing the setup and implementation of survey projects. Her responsibilities include creating survey files, training staff, preparing and delivering data, analyzing operational statistics to forecast project timelines, and collaborating on client communications and project updates.
