We want all Dance students to succeed in every part of their academic careers at UVU. We’ve gathered together the following resources from within the department and across the university to help you do just that. Department announcements are emailed to students each Friday. If you’re not getting that email, please contact Laural Hill at [email protected].
The School of the Arts has a great team of academic advisors to make sure you are prepared for your college journey. Students are encouraged to meet with an advisor often to make sure they are on track for graduation. The Dance advisors can help you register for classes and are able to answer any questions you may have about being a Dance major.
Students working with professional dance companies, art organizations, public and private schools, or any institution performing duties that directly relate to the student’s area of study may apply to receive elective credit towards their degree program. Internship credit is granted through completion of one to three credit hours of DANC 481R. All internship credits must be pre-approved through The Department of Dance Chair and verified with the Dance Internship Coordinator before registration. Students must follow the steps below and complete the application to register for Dance Internship credit.
The Department of Dance has a two-fold mission for the physical therapy resources available to students, 1) to educate students about injury prevention, 2) to treat minor injuries.
All majors within The Department of Dance are provided with a baseline screening by the PT’s and guided in their personal injury prevention. Physical therapists are also contracted as guest presenters in beginning and intermediate conditioning courses to go deeper into the process of injury prevention and recuperation.
Students within The Department of Dance can be seen by PTs for minor injuries. There are limited slots for appointments, therefore priority will be given to 1) dance majors 2) non-majors in dance performing companies 3) non-majors taking dance courses 4) majors in music, theater, or visual arts. Students will only be scheduled for one appointment each week. Those needing additional therapy are encouraged to seek treatment off campus.
