Admittance and scholarship auditions will be held on January 25, 2025. Scholarship results and admittance will be announced by the end of February. Modern/Contemporary BFA and Scholarship Audition

Certificate of Proficiency in Ballroom Dance

Students interested in pursuing a Certificate of Proficiency in Ballroom Dance must apply academically to the University. Dance Scholarship Information

Dance majors and non-majors alike are eligible for a variety of scholarships, ranging from quarter to full tuition.

Scholarship auditions will occur annually in January.

Ballet BFA Admittance and Scholarship Audition

Auditions: Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025

Registration: 10:00 a.m.
Informational Session for Students and Parents: 10:30 a.m.
Audition: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Come dressed to take a ballet technique class consisting of barre and center combinations. Dancers trained in pointe should bring pointe shoes.

Digital Submission:

Incoming/Transfer Students unable to attend the live audition must submit a video audition link via Dance Degree and Scholarship Application Form by January 18, 2025, for consideration. Submissions should only include the following center combinations:

  • Adagio
  • Pirouettes en dehors and en dedans
  • Petit Allegro
  • Grand Allegro
  • Relevés, consecutive Relevés on one leg, Échappés, Piqué and Chaîné turns

Demonstration of pointe work is encouraged.

  • Tendu and plie combination (1 minute)
  • Locomotor and center combination (1 minute)
  • Improvisation (1 minute)

BS in Dance Scholarship Auditions

Ballroom Scholarship Audition

Audition: Applications & video submission

For all scholarship applicants:

  1. Record a video demonstrating two dances: International Latin or American Rhythm (choose from cha-cha, samba, rumba, or bolero) and International Ballroom or American Smooth (choose from waltz, tango, or foxtrot). These two dances may be either syllabus routines or open routines. Costumes are not allowed.
  2. Upload the video as an unlisted or private link to a digital platform (YouTube or Vimeo, etc.).
  3. By Saturday, January 25, 2025, register for audition and submit video link via Dance Degree and Scholarship Application Form

Esprit d.c. Scholarship Auditions

Continuing Student Auditions: Tue, Jan. 21, 2025

Registration: 5:30 p.m.
Audition: 6:00 - 8:15 p.m.
Where: Studio RL 153H  

Eligible students may audition for Esprit d.c. scholarships as a part of their regular rehearsal on January 21, 2025. Auditioning students will attend rehearsal as usual and wear an audition number. A committee of adjunct and full-time faculty will assess those auditioning. Registering for the scholarship audition indicates that the student is committed to the Esprit d.c. year-long company the following year (2025-2026). To be eligible for consideration students must be:

  • Admitted Dance Major in any of our 4-year degrees (BFA Modern, BFA Ballet, BS Dance Education, BS Dance)
  • Current company member with Esprit and in good standing on Esprit d.c.

Repertory Ballet Ensemble

  • First Thursday of the school year (Aug. 22) | 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. | Rebecca Lockhart Studios UVU  
  • Come ready to dance in ballet attire. The RBE audition will consist of a ballet technique class and repertoire. Dancers trained en pointe should bring pointe shoes.

Ballroom Company Audition

  • Tour Team auditions for the 2024–25 academic year will be held Saturday, April 20 | 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. | RL 153H  
  • Company auditions for the Back-up Tour Team and Back-up Teams will be held on the first Thursday of the semester (Aug. 22) | 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. | SC Grande Ballroom  
  • Dancers should come prepared to dance Cha Cha and Waltz (either International Style or American Style) with a partner. You can choose to bring your own partner, or you can dance lead/follow with a current member of the Company. The choreography should be either syllabus or open figures (no lifts allowed). Dancers should wear nice practice clothing; costumes (with rhinestones, feathers, etc.) are not allowed. At the April 22 Tour Team audition, a short choreography callback round may follow the Waltz and Cha Cha rounds.

Hip Hop Crew, Esprit d.c.

  • Thursday, Aug. 22 | 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. | Rebecca Lockhart Studios UVU  
  • Please arrive early enough to warm up and be ready to learn choreography at 6pm. Students interested in auditioning will be asked to learn a section of choreography and perform it in small groups.

*If you have any improvisation, tumbling, or breaking skills, you will be given the opportunity to showcase those talents but will not be required to in order to audition.

Rhythmic Tap Company

  • Monday, Aug. 26 | 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. | RL 153H  
  • Students interested in auditioning for Rhythmic should come prepared to take a tap class.
  • Students do not need to prepare a solo. All audition material will be learned at the audition which will follow a typical class structure (warm up, technique, across the floor, choreography, and improv). Don't forget to bring your tap shoes!

    • This letter may include follow-up actions.

To fulfill the requirements of the Student Progress Evaluation successfully, you must complete:

  • The steps outlined above.
  • Any follow-up actions recommended by the Program Coordinator.
  • A tech check-in during your ballet technique class. (Spring of Year 1)
  • Be in good academic standing:
    • Overall UVU GPA of 2.0 or higher.
    • GPA of 2.5 or higher in all DANC courses.

If sufficient progress is not being made, you will be advised to meet with the Program Coordinator to discuss options.

After completing the Student Progress Evaluation, meet with your advisor once a semester to ensure you are making adequate progress toward graduation.

To complete the Department of Dance Student Progress Evaluation successfully, you must:

  • Complete the steps outlined above including any follow-up actions recommended by the Program Coordinator.
  • Pass the Interview and Portfolio Review (Spring of Year 1).
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher with no grade lower than a C in content area courses.

To complete the School of Education Matriculation requirements successfully, you must:

  • Complete ENGL and MATH QL courses with a grade C or higher.
  • Complete all General Education requirements and 70% of content area courses.
  • Pass LiveScan Criminal Background Check.

If you do not pass the Department of Dance Student Progress Evaluation and/or the School of Education matriculation requirements, you will be advised to meet with the Program Coordinator to discuss options.

After completing the Student Progress Evaluation, meet with your advisor once a semester to ensure you are making adequate progress toward graduation.

BS in Dance – Ballroom Dance Track
