Apply for TRIO Student Support Services

Thank you for your interest in TRIO Student Support Services (SSS). SSS is an application-based program with limited availability that serves students during the fall and spring semesters. Learn more about how to qualify for the SSS program and how to apply.

Applications are currently closed and will reopen in June 2024.

TRIO SSS Eligibility

Students must meet the following criteria for SSS qualification:

○ U.S. citizen or permanent resident Enrolled and currently attending UVU
Demonstrate an academic or support need for services
Meet one or more of the following:
- ○ First-Generation: neither parent has received a bachelor’s degree in the U.S.
- Low Income: have financial need based on federal guidelines.
- Disabled: includes both physical and learning disabilities. Must be working with UVU Accessibility Services.

Application Process

After applying, your application is sent to our Assistant Director to be reviewed. You will then receive an email to your UVU Outlook email. If you have questions, please email Frenely Liechty at [email protected] for information about your application.

Helpful Definitions

An independent student is one of the following:

at least 24 years old and/or married
a graduate or professional student
a veteran, a member of the armed forces
an orphan
a ward of the court
someone with legal dependents other than a spouse
an emancipated minor or someone who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless

A dependent student is under 24 years old and does not fit under any of the categories listed under independent student above. As such, the dependent student’s parent or legal guardian must sign the FAFSA documents of the student to verify Low-Income Status.

Onboarding Process

Upon acceptance into UVU’s TRIO SSS program, you will receive an acceptance email that outlines the following tasks:

Meet with our director, Dr. Jennie Hall
Complete the CliftonStrengths Assessment
Meet with advisor Camille Beecroft to discuss your Clifton Strengths results
Meet with UVU’s Money Success Center 3 times throughout the semester

Accepted students are also expected to meet with Camille Beecroft at least once a semester (not including the CliftonStrengths meeting) to receive priority registration, interact and respond to their peer mentors, and come to TRIO hosted events as able.
