What does this policy entail? Through this policy, UVU will encourage the formation and ongoing engagement of employee resource groups (ERGs) to promote awareness, respect, and inclusion at the University. An ERG is a voluntary, employee-led group centered on shared identities, experiences, or interests. The University must approve each ERG. University ERGs allow employees to identify and share common identities and interests. The policy lays out the process through which employees can apply for approval to establish an ERG.

What changes were made to this policy? This policy was updated to bring it into alignment with Utah Board of Higher Education Policy R841. Major updates include:
- Defining clearly the grounds for imposing sanctions
- Introducing a mandatory notice period prior to imposing a sanction and grant employees the opportunity to present their response
- Providing clarity on the timeline for initiating an appeal process

Why is this policy in the process? This new policy complies with USHE’s policy guidelines by doing the following:
- Defines a reduction in force
- Provides guidance for identifying the staff members to be terminated
- Sets a priority for separation for part-time staff members, temporary staff members, or probationary staff members
- Provides notice requirements to separated employees
- Requires a recall provision if the terminated position becomes open again
- Outlines benefits for the separated employees
- Allows for payment in lieu of notice for separation
What were the revisions to the policy based on comments received in Stage 2? The changes include
- Clarifying that a department must send a written request to People and Culture for approval if it determines a RIF is necessary
- Providing more detail on and clarifying who is responsible to recall employees
- Removing instances where it was unclear that the content is referring to new, unrelated job openings
