Applications for the 2024/2025 funding year are OPEN.

Applications are open from September 1st to March 8th, for funding consideration for the current academic year.  Research applications submitted the first three weeks of each month undergo a two week review process beginning the last week of the same month into the first week of the next month. The review committee meets the second week of each month to determine awards. Award notifications go out the second week of each month.  Applications are considered for award as long as funds are available.

 

Applications submitted between on March 9 and April 15 each year, will be considered for funding in the upcoming academic year to fund on July 1 and allow for work from July 1 through the full academic year.

 

All applications are closed between April 16 and August 30 of each year.

ALL APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO MEET WITH THEIR DEANS FINANCIAL MANAGER TO REVIEW THEIR PROPOSED BUDGETS PRIOR TO SUBMITTING. APPLICANTS NOT FULFILLING THIS REQUIREMENT WILL  AUTOMATICALLY HAVE THEIR APPLICATIONS DECLINED.

  • CapStone Projects, class projects, honors thesis and graduate/master program projects are not eligible for funding.
  • Undergraduate Students with 150 or less, combined credit hours, may apply to the Undergraduate Research and Creative Works office for consideration of financial support for their proposed research projects.
  • Student awards are limited to one research grant (ie: URSCA, Juntos or TEELs) and one dissemination grant in an academic year. (Note: this limit applies to students regardless of wether they are the primary applicant or a co-applicant).
  • Students develop a research project, prepare and submit the grant application written in their own words and by the student, in a language suitable for a lay audience.
  • All applications are reviewed by the SCAC committee comprised of faculty and administration from each college at UVU.

Note: All application signatures must be completed for the application to be submitted. All signatures are dependent on the one prior and can only be completed in succession.

URSCA Research Grant

Students seeking funding to conduct Projects/Research

Undergraduate Research Scholarly and Creative Activities (URSCA) is an undergraduate research program at UVU. Upper-division students work with faculty mentors to conduct in-depth research or creative work related to their chosen field of study. This program provides funding to support completion of these projects. (URSCA Grants may only be applied for by current UVU students.)

  • Students may only receive one URSCA Research grant in an Academic Year.

Research Funds will be awarded the beginning of each month on a competitive basis, based on fund availability. Funds awarded must be used by June 30 of each academic year. Applications awarded after March 8 will be funded on July 1 and available till June 30 of the following year.

There are two options for research funding available:

  1. Individual conducting research - Up to $2,500
  2. Student Team conducting research - UP to $5,000

Awards may be used for travel, supplies, or student hourly wages. Per Diem is not an allowable expense on research grant applications and will be denied.

Proposals will be reviewed by the Scholarly and Creative Activities Council to select awardees.

Students awarded funding are required to submit a final report within their ZEngine application to include an executive summary, student participation list and budget reconciliation form, by June 30, of the same academic year. Applying to present the research at a discipline-specific, institutional, regional, national or international conference is also required.

TEELS Grant

Stem Related Research Projects

The D. Clark and Pam Turner Endowment for Engaged Learning in STEM Research Fellowships (TEELS) are designed to support Undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree in the Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math (STEM) disciplines and who are actively involved in an undergraduate research project overseen by a faculty member and/or industry representative who can act as the undergraduate student's mentor. The goal of this grant award is to provide very high impact mentored research learning experiences for students in STEM-related areas, and prepare the student with early professional experience in their chosen fields. The student must demonstrate a commitment and potential to advance in these areas. The faculty mentor must be prepared to provide high-quality mentoring to the student.

Funds may be requested up to $4,000 over two terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year. Awards are primarily intended to be used for student hourly salary/benefits not to exceed $18.00 hour, but may also be used for research related travel, materials and supplies not generally available on campus, or other student-related research costs associated with the students research. Proposals will be submitted to the Scholarly and Creative Activities Council via ZEngine (link below) for review.

Students awarded funding must submit a year end report which includes a project overview, intended goals, outcomes and assessment of the project, in addition to a budget reconciliation and student participation list. They must also apply to present their research at a discipline specific, national, international, regional, or institutional conference.

Juntos Grant

Projects focused on specific areas of study

The Juntos (Spanish for "together") Grant is a new multifaceted grant aimed at supporting projects that address important societal issues by focusing on one of seven specific areas of study.

  • Civil Discourse - Projects aim to foster constructive and respectful conversations on critical issues affecting society.
  • Equity - Projects seek to address the equity faced by all populations.
  • Refugee Affairs - Projects may focus on unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Health and Wellness Access - Projects focus on disparities, access and quality of.
  • Economic Justice - Projects may work to create a more equitable economic system through identifying needs and resolutions.
  • LGBTQIA+ - Projects will advocate for the rights and well-being of all.
  • Cultural Influences - Projects may focus on celebrating, preserving and educating.

By providing financial support to diverse projects in these areas, the grant seeks to foster positive change, empower marginalized communities and promote understanding, empathy, and respect among all individuals.

Individual grants may be request a budget up to $2,500. Team grants may request a budget up to $5,000. All grants must be completed by June 30 of each year with all funds expended by the same date. Any unused funds will be swept.

URSCA Dissemination Grant

Present your Project/Research

Undergraduate Research Scholarly and Creative Activities (URSCA) is an undergraduate research program at UVU. Students work with faculty mentors to conduct in-depth research or creative work related to their chosen field of study. This program provides funding to support dissemination of these projects. (URSCA Grants may only be applied for by current UVU students.)

  • Students may only receive one URSCA Dissemination grant in an Academic Year.

Dissemination Funds may be applied for on a rolling basis and will be reviewed as applications are received.

There are two options for dissemination funds available:

  1. Individual disseminating research - Up to $1,500.
  2. Student Teams disseminating research - Up to $3,000.
    • Dissemination applications must have the following information:
      • What conference will dissemination be presented at?
      • What is the date of the conference?
      • In the case of a Team, what are the roles of each member at the conference?
      • A copy of the acceptance attached.

**Awards must be used for travel and conference registration**. Travel to and from a conference for an enrolled student/s, hotel, conference registration and per diem. There is a limit on per diem allowing for one dinner meal reimbursement per student per day based on location as outlined in UVU travel policy and within the Concur travel request system. All travel MUST be done through concur. Please work with your mentor and/or financial manager to submit the request and secure travel accommodations.

Students awarded funding are required to submit a 3 part final report consisting of an executive summary detailing their experience, a student participation report and a budget reconciliation report, links  for which are found and submitted within the original awarded application, by June 30, of the same academic year.

How to Apply

  1. All applications will be submitted via the ZEngine application portal and includes your abstract, any team members to include name and UV ID's of each and required budget request form. Only the completed electronic ZEngine application will be considered for award. No hard copies will be accepted. Below is the link to apply. You will need to download the budget form to complete and then upload it to your application.
  2. The SCAC Committee will review all applications the last week of every month. Award notifications will go out the first week of every month.
  3. You are required to meet with your Deans Financial Manager to review your completed budget request form for approval, prior to submitting your application. Financial managers will not sign your application if you do not complete this step. This form is required and must be submitted with your application.
  4. Have the following names and email addresses to begin your application: Faculty Mentor, Department Chair and the college you are in. You must use the correct uvu email, ie: [email protected], not the [email protected] or the application will go into a black hole and not be signed. Selecting your college, ie: College of Science, School of the Arts, etc. will auto populate your Dean and Financial Managers information for signatures.
  5. Select the link to the right to begin your application. It is your responsibility to make sure your application is complete and obtains all required signatures. You can access it at anytime in your ZEngine account. Incomplete or unsigned applications will not be considered for award.

Tips on Preparing Your Proposal

Proposals Should:

  • Include your name, UVID number, UVU email address, and your faculty mentor's information.
  • State, in clear terms, the central question, purpose of the project, and background and context to show how project fits into overall discipline, and how it contributes to that discipline in a meaningful and novel way.
  • Budget narrative must include what the role of each individual(s) will be in the project.
  • Be well organized

All proposals will undergo a careful review by the Scholarly and Creative Activities Council

Review and Funding of Undergraduate Scholarly Projects Take into Account the Following Criteria:

  1. Project has clearly stated objectives and outcomes that can be readily evaluated.
  2. Project includes a product that significantly contributes to scholarship or creative work within its discipline. Higher priority will be given to products subject to some aspect of professional peer review extending beyond the confines of UVU campus.
  3. Proposal is well written and organized, offering background and context to show how the project fits into the overall discipline, and how it contributes to that discipline in a meaningful and novel way.
  4. Project requires rigorous effort at the advanced undergraduate level.
  5. Level of support indicated in faculty recommendation section of the application, and should address rubric items.
