Standard Letter Grade A-D

Grades 'A' through 'D' are assigned at faculty discretion in accordance with University policy and according to the class syllabus.

Failing Grade

An 'E' grade is assigned to students who complete the class but who fail due to poor performance, lack of understanding, etc.

Remember to add the last date of attendance/participation!

Unofficial Withdrawal

A 'UW' grade is assigned to students who have earned a failing grade (E) due to non-attendance or non-participation.

Remember to add the last date of attendance/participation!

(UW discontinued as of Fall 2024)

Incomplete Grade

An 'I' grade is assigned to students who are unable to complete the class in the standard time frame due to extenuating circumstances as defined in the UVU Catalog. The form is found in myUVU.

Credit

A 'CR' grade is assigned only when the course section is specifically set up as a "credit/no credit" course. The 'CR' indicates credit has been earned. This is not common.

No Credit

A 'NC' grade is assigned only when the course section is specifically set up as a "credit/no credit" course. The 'NC' indicates credit has not been earned. This is not common.

Remember to add the last date of attendance/participation!

Entering Grades

🚩 IMPORTANT!

  • The grade entry system does not allow faculty to enter 'N/A' as the last attend date. If the student never attended or participated, enter the first day of the term or block as the last attend date. See LAST ATTEND DATE section below for more information.
  • Grades are automatically rolled to academic history on a daily basis. If you enter a grade today, it will be available on the student transcript tomorrow. See AUTOMATIC GRADE ROLLING section below.
  • Your grade roster may have more than one page! If you can't find a student, they are likely on the next page.
  • Are you a Mac user? The Banner grade entry system is not fully compatible with Macs. You may need to use a PC to enter your grades.

Troubleshooting

Having trouble entering grades? Here are the most common problems we see:

Can't find a student on my grade roster

The student is likely on another page.

Two options

  1. Click the "next page" icon at the bottom right of the page.
  2. Change the "per page" limit to a higher number.
limit per page

Can't find a course

You may not be listed as an instructor on the section.

To check your assigned classes, go to https://my.uvu.edu/workplace/faculty/my_classes/ and select List of Current Classes. Select the term and your assigned sections will be shown.

Mac users

Are you a Mac user?

The Banner grading system is not fully compatible with Mac devices. Please try entering your grades on a PC.

Automatic Grade Rolling

Grade "rolling" refers to the process of publishing a final grade to the student transcript and updating the class roster, Canvas, Wolverine Track, and a variety of other student systems. The roll is followed by an update to include/exclude repeated classes and to recalculate the GPA. Grades "roll" automatically each day at 6 am. A grade entered today into the final grade system (Banner) will roll tomorrow.

Automatic grade rolling provides numerous benefits:

  • Automatic grade rolling addresses and resolves an audit finding from the Department of Education which found that 'W' grades were not available when they should be.
  • Automatic grade rolling keeps Canvas and the course roster up-to-date when students withdraw form or complete the course.
  • Automatic grade rolling allows students to see a true representation of their transcript, course, and schedule status, particularly in the case of withdrawal.
  • Automatic grade rolling allows the student to order transcripts earlier to use for scholarships and other purposes.
  • Automatic grade rolling allows financial aid to evaluate and package aid more quickly for the next semester.
  • Automatic grade rolling aids the Registrar's Office and University goals of digital transformation: removing human touch points and system babysitting.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • The final grade entry system (Banner) should not be used as a staging ground for grade calculation and adjustment.
  • Enter grades in the final grade system only when they are actually final.

Did you know?

You can change a grade that is incorrect even after it has been rolled! This is done using the Grade Changes tool in myUVU at https://my.uvu.edu/workplace/faculty/my_classes/. Changes using this tool are immediate!

Last Attend Date

The Last Attend Date is required for UW, E, and NC grades. If a class is not held in person or has no attendance requirement, use the last date of participation.

NOTE: The UW grade has been discontinued as of Fall 2024.

Students who never attend or participate

For students who never attended or participated in the class, faculty should enter a 'UW' grade, and the first day of the semester or block as the 'last attend date'. Current semester dates and deadlines are published on our website.

Beginning Fall 2024, faculty will enter an 'E' grade instead of a 'UW'.

Students who complete the class and earn an 'E'

For students who complete the class and earn an 'E', faculty should enter the last day of the semester or block. Current semester dates and deadlines are published on our website.

NOTE: If grading before the End Date listed, enter today's date as the Last Attend Date.
