Printing Services operates a full-service Offset Print Shop located in the UVU Auxiliary building.
This facility is responsible for satisfying most of the school’s offset printing needs including full-color magazines, posters, brochures, programs, and flyers. The offset print shop also prints business forms, letterhead, business cards, envelopes, tickets, postcards, announcements, and other related materials.
Offset printing is done on a printing press. A printing press differs from digital printing in that offset printing uses ink, water, printing plates and high pressure rollers to press the ink into the paper. Digital uses toner, a powder, and melts it to the paper often creating a shine even on matte and uncoated papers. Generally offset printing is considered higher quality. Offset printing can make large jobs more affordable as opposed to printing digital. Because a large portion of the cost of offset printing comes from 'set-up', it is usually not cost effective for small print jobs.
Printing can be complex. David Scott, the Director of Printing Services, can help you understand the many options, types of printing and what will work best for your project. x8371.
