Policy Manual Updates: Policy Actions Approved by Board of Trustees, December 5, 2024

On December 5, 2024, the UVU Board of Trustees approved the following policies to be added and revised in the Policy Manual.

Who does this apply to? Staff and Faculty 

What is included in this new policy? This new policy now defines, clarifies, and communicates the following: 

  • A name for the employee awards, which encompass the Provost, Professional Association of Campus Employees (PACE), Faculty Senate, deans, and divisional awards,  to avoid confusion with the University Awards of Excellence, which encompass the Presidential and Trustee awards
  • Award eligibility criteria
  • Guidelines for People and Culture for overseeing and monitoring processes to ensure fairness
  • Flexibility in  number of awards, types of awards, and monetary amount for each award

Who does this apply to? All employees

What is included in the revisions to this policy? (1) Currently, the policy allows six weeks of leave for the birthing parent, but only two for parental leave. Providing eight weeks to both parents ensures  both parents have the same opportunity to bond with  their child and share caregiving responsibilities. It also  supports gender equality in the workplace and promotes a more inclusive environment. (2)  Full-time nonexempt employees will now also accrue vacation time at the same rate as full-time exempt employees. This temporary policy will lapse December 5, 2025, and be replaced with a version that has gone through full governance entity review.
