On January 25, 2024, President’s Council approved the following policy actions:

Policy 501 Undergraduate Admissions and Enrollment

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Michelle Kearns
Policy Stewards Kyle Hicken
Policy Actions Limited Scope Revision
President's Council Action Entrance to Stages 1 and 2
Pipeline Draft Stage 2 Draft

Who does this apply to? Incoming students and employees involved in enrollment processes

What changes were made to this policy? This policy revision contains two specific changes:
1) Section 5.3 will now read, “upon high school completion, concurrent enrollment students will be automatically admitted to UVU as new freshmen.”
2) Section 5.4 will no longer require that admission applicants under the age of 17 to meet with the Director or Assistant Director of Admissions in person; these meetings may now occur virtually, over the phone, and so forth.

Now that this policy draft is in Stage 2, what does this mean for me? If you have any comments or concerns with these proposed revisions, contact your elected senator. Stage 2 will end on March 21, 2024.

Policy 376 Reduction in Force

Approval Process Regular
Policy Sponsor Marilyn Meyer
Policy Stewards Drew Burke, Cathy Jordan
Policy Actions New
President's Council Action Entrance to Stage 4

Who does this apply to? Employees and supervisors

Why is this policy in the process? This new policy complies with USHE’s policy guidelines by doing the following:

  • Defines a reduction in force
  • Provides guidance for identifying the staff members to be terminated
  • Sets a priority for separation for part-time staff members, temporary staff members, or probationary staff members
  • Provides notice requirements to separated employees
  • Requires a recall provision if the terminated position becomes open again
  • Outlines benefits for the separated employees
  • Allows for payment in lieu of notice for separation

Now that this policy draft is in Stage 4, what does this mean for me? Once the Board of the Trustees approves this policy for entrance into the Policy Manual, supervisors may wish to become familiar with this policy as it applies to their management duties.
