Who does this apply to? University employees who are whistleblowers
Now that it's in the Policy Manual, what does this policy mean for me? If you are a university employee who is a whistleblower, the law and this policy protect you from retaliation. This policy revision incorporates changes made to the Utah Protection of Public Employees Act (UPPEA) by Senate Bill 40 and provides a procedural framework for USHE universities to follow when a USHE employee files a complaint for whistleblower retaliation with their university. Key updates to this policy include
- The creation of a procedural framework for Policy 168 whistleblower retaliation investigations and hearings.
- Language that ensures compliance with the UPPEA 30-day deadline for whistleblower retaliation claims
- The addition of language for the dismissal of meritless complaints
