High School Model UN Conference - February 8, 2025

 

The Office for Global Engeagment is excited to host the 3rd High School Model UN Conference at Utah Valley University on Saturday, February 8, 2025.  We love to see the enthusiasm in the high school students as they debate current issues and it gives us a chance to show off our incredible university!

Registration fee: $60 per school registration due by December 15, 2024.  The $6 per each student registration fee should be paid as soon as individuals are confirmed, up to January 31, 2025

For UVUMUN 2025 we can accommodate up to 230 students. High school delegations must have a minimum of 5 students and no more than 30 students. Teams can consist of either a single student or pairs - be sure to indicate when you register. Conference materials and a box lunch are included in the registration fees. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Minor Participation Agreement: As this event will include minors, all high school students must complete the Activity Participation Agreement for Minors form. Forms should be uploaded electronically to  SharePoint (link to be provided) by January 31, 2025. Students will not be allowed to participate on UVU Campus without it.

Volunteers:  To volunteer, fill out this form.  Then complete the Volunteer Agreement form. Volunteers under 18 must also complete the Activity Participation Agreement for Minors form.

Countries: Choose the countries your school would like to represent from the list below. Please select a flag bearer for each country represented by your school. Flag bearers must report to the Clarke Building Auditorium by 9:15am on the day of the event for orientation and line-up.

Important Dates & Information:

December 15, 2024

  • Online School Registration closes - $60 per school
  • Country Preference due - Each school can submit up to 7 country preferences from the list of countries. Be sure to submit your top choice first. All assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis. Please send country preferences to [email protected]
  • Please check your school’s assignment for accuracy, as soon as possible. The final list of country assignments will be posted on this webpage by 12:00 noon on January 6, 2025.

January 31, 2025 

  • Opening Addresses due - Each school may submit ONE address to be given in the conference's opening assembly for consideration. Speeches should address the topic:How to address global disinformation campaigns to destabilize countries, influencing elections and creating social tensions?  The speech may not be longer than one page typed, double-spaced in no smaller than 12-point font. Along with the speech, please include one brief paragraph of biographical information about the speaker.  
  • Security Council Candidacy due - An individual student or advisor may submit one sentence on why the student would be a good candidate to the following email: [email protected] Be sure to include the full name of the student and school. 
  • Policy Papers due - Policy papers (one page, double-spaced) must be uploaded toSharePoint(link to be provided)by this date. Remember that delegates submitting late papers are ineligible for a “superior” delegate distinction.Security Council members can submit a paper on one of the committee topics of their choice.

 February 8, 2025

  • Model UN Conference - The conference will take place from approximately 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM  with check in starting at 8:30 AM  in various locations in the UVU Clarke Building. Payment of individual delegate fees ($6 per participant) should be made online leading up to the conference but must be made by that day.

General Assembly:

  1. Genocide and mass atrocities
  2. Structural inequality and resilience strategies

General Assembly - 1st Committee:

  1. Preserving natural resources during economic development
  2. Promoting investments for sustainable development
  3. Maritime security

Food and Agriculture Organization (council):

  1. Reducing the impact on food chains
  2. Protecting and promoting the roles of women in food systems
  3. Climate-smart agriculture for a more sustainable future

United Nations Security Council:

Topics to be determined at the time of the convening of the conference.
