Student teaching is a culminating experience completed during your last semester. Student teaching applications are due the 3rd Friday in September for Spring semester and the 3rd Friday in January for Fall semester.

Student Teaching/Internships provide students the opportunity to practice what has been learned on the university campus and, more importantly, to continue academic and professional growth.

Student teachers and Interns will have opportunities to develop leadership skills working with students in a variety of settings, such as: before and after school enrichment classes, performance activities, student government and various clubs.

All Secondary Education course work and methods courses must be completed with a B- or higher prior to student teaching/internship.

It is recommended that students pass their content area Praxis exam prior to applying for an Internship

All content classes must be completed with a C or higher before student teaching/internship

Students may not solicit schools and/or principals for possible student teaching and/or internship placement. Student teaching and/or Intern placements and selection will be determined by the partnership district, content area departments, and the Secondary Field Coordinator.

Steps to Apply

Step #1: Read through the following

Student teaching takes place during your last semester in the Secondary education program.

Requirements for Student Teaching or Internship:

  • ALL education & methods courses completed with a B- or better
  • ALL content area courses completed with a C or better

Step #2: Complete Content Area Verification Form

  1.  You will need to submit a Content Area Verification Form. The link to the form is in the application. 

Step #3: Complete a student teaching application

Fall Student Teaching/Internships: Applications are due the 3rd Friday in January.

Spring Student Teaching: Applications are due the 3rd Friday in September.

You will be contacted with any questions, otherwise decision emails will be distributed by the clinical coordinator within 2 weeks of the application deadline.

After acceptance, students must attend an orientation before they can student teach. Date and time for this orientation will be included in the decision email.
