hOW DO I PLACE ORDERS WITH THE COMPUTER SHOP?

With the new school year approaching, the Computer Shop is experiencing an overwhelming demand for our products. Unfortunately, shipping delays and a staffing shortage are posing challenges. To help us schedule shipments of your equipment with our vendors, we urge you to place your order promptly. Please consult with your area techs to ensure you get the right equipment for your needs. We are working tirelessly to meet the demand, but delays may occur. Your immediate action will help us serve you better and improve your chances of receiving your equipment as soon as possible.

To help combat these delays we have introduced a new ordering process though our partners at B&H. This process was made to streamline purchases for you, shipments will be on average 3-5 business days depending on volume. Please use this link for instructions on how to place and order and what is available for purchase. Please reach out to the ITAM team if you have any questions or feedback on the new process.

If you have Apple devices (MacBook, iMac, iPad, etc.) that you are sending to Surplus, please ensure you remove your AppleID or your department AppleID from the device before handing it over. If you don’t, the device remains locked to your AppleID account, making it difficult to securely wipe data and surplus. Your area technician will know how to do this, or you can reach out to us directly at [email protected], and we can show you how to do it.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

hOW CAN i LEARN ABOUT Privacy and Security in the microsoft ecosystem?

Why We Use the Microsoft Ecosystem

Under President Tuminez's direction to minimize our software footprint and maximize our technology, we chose the Microsoft ecosystem. In doing so, we benefit from access to tools like Office 365, Outlook, Teams, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), two-factor authentication, file sharing with OneDrive and SharePoint, and more.

Is Your Data Secure?

Yes. Microsoft's education agreement with UVU prohibits data mining, ensuring your information remains private. No AI scanning/sharing occurs.

Administrative Access

System administrators have access to all information within their systems/applications. This access is necessary to maintain systems/applications and troubleshoot errors, ensuring functionality and security.

Data Sharing Policies

Dx policies on sharing data are strict, especially regarding business access to users' OneDrive documents. Data sharing is rare and highly controlled, requiring extensive approval and oversight. No data is shared without first undergoing a rigorous authorization process that involves representatives from Dx, People and Culture, the Office of General Council, and others.

Personal Devices

UVU does not have access to your personal devices and cannot manage or control the device. We can only monitor UVU-managed apps. As a standard procedure, when an individual is no longer affiliated with UVU, they will lose access to all university data and communications provided by UVU.

Balancing Work and Personal Use on UVU Devices

While you can use UVU devices for personal use, remember that UVU policies apply to the data (e.g., the Freedom of Information Act). The only method to truly separate work data and personal data is to use separate devices.

Emerging Threats and Security Measures

  • Text Message Fraud: Fraud and phishing attacks via text messaging are alarmingly common. Do not share sensitive information over text messages
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Safety: Use authenticator apps like Microsoft Authenticator or hardware tokens for 2FA. Never share 2FA codes. Microsoft, UVU, and most other organizations will never ask for your password or 2FA codes.
  • Impersonation Awareness: Take the time to verify the legitimacy of messages, especially when they involve sensitive actions or information. Do not share codes or personal details through text messages, especially if the sender warns of urgent consequences like account deletion. If you ever feel unsure about a message, please call the UVU Service Desk for assistance.
  • Incident Reporting: Report any suspicious texts or phishing attempts immediately.

If you have any questions or concerns about the information provided in this briefing, please do not hesitate to contact our IT security team. Together, we can safeguard our organization's digital assets and protect our employees from potential harm.
