Frequently Asked Questions

  • What roadblocks stalled the Box Migration in the past?

Here are some factors that caused us to pause the Box Migration in 2023 until now:
    1. Storage costs were in flux, leaving us unsure for quite a while how to best be cost effective.
    2. Migration tool licensing and technology limitations caused delays and file migration slowdowns.
    3. The main project technical lead left UVU. Others had to learn how to do the migration in his place.
    4. We needed to develop and update a UVU file storage strategy to guide decision-making.
    5. We needed to develop processes to simplify and scale the file migration process.

  • What is different in this project plan from before?

There are a number of differences. Here are a few:
    1. Individuals should migrate their own files to OneDrive, rather than having Dx move them.
    2. Since most individual files have already been migrated, Dx is focusing on department files.
    3. Area techs will be much more deeply involved in ensuring department files are moved.

  • How can I verify and complete migration of my individual files?

We've created this Individual Box Migration Guide to help you through that process. If you have trouble, you can always contact the Enterprise Service Desk.

  • When do my files need to be moved?

You should plan to migrate your personal files as soon as possible. All files must have been migrated from Box before April 30, 2025. Start your process right away, to ensure any problems encountered along the way can be resolved.

  • Where can I find general information about UVU's File Storage services?

Please see the File Storage service webpage.

  • What is the University going to do with my files?

All files will be moved to OneDrive and SharePoint. Individuals should move or work with their area tech to move their individual Box files to OneDrive. Dx is partnering with area techs and departments to ensure that all department files are moved at the right time and to the right spot to keep everyone working.

  • Why are we making the move?

The university is consolidating its solution for cloud storage to increase security and reduce the costs of supporting multiple cloud storage platforms.

  • What is my storage quota?

Storage capacity is limited, and quota values have not yet been set. After the quota has been applied, you can get your quota increased by submitting this Request.

  • What is the limit for individual files?
The individual file size limit is currently 250 GB.
  • Who can see/access my OneDrive Files?

By default, all files are only accessible by you (the owner) until you share them. It is a good idea to review any sharing or permissions you have given on your OneDrive files at the beginning of each semester.

  • How do I share a file with someone outside of UVU?

Sharing externally (outside of UVU) is a restricted feature that must be approved and enabled. You can request the ability to share externally by submitting a ticket with "External Sharing Request" in the description.

  • Are all files in OneDrive automatically backed up?

OneDrive has an auto-sync feature that will back up your files to Microsoft cloud servers.

  • What do the different icons in OneDrive mean?

Visit this OneDrive Guide for more information regarding OneDrive symbols.
