Sleeping Rainbow Ranch

Overview

Capitol Reef National Park provides not only a stunning and dramatic backdrop of the American West; it also offers a unique glimpse into the intersections of cultures, peoples, and land uses there. One particularly rich story is of the Sleeping Rainbow Ranch, nestled between the Capitol Reef Field Station and Pleasant Creek.

UVU English and Digital Media students created this short documentary film detailing the early history of the ranch:

Unfortunately, much of the old ranch is gone and now; only the corrals and barns remain.

""After the guest ranch closed in 1974, Alice deeded the property to the National Park Service. Lurt and Alice were able to grow old together peacefully and remain in the serene area they had come to recognize as home."
