College of Science Scholarly Activities Committee (SAC)

The Scholarly Activities Committee provides funding opportunities for COS faculty-mentored research and for COS students to travel for dissemination at professional conferences.

When can you start research? Which faculty are doing research? How do you find a faculty member to work with? Click the top button on the right to see the current research projects in the College of Science.

Once you are in a research group, you can apply for funds through SAC with the help of your mentor.  Find the current SAC Guidelines and obtain the proposal forms to begin the application process with your mentor by clicking on the buttons on the right.

Summer Research Opportunities through the National Science Foundation

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is a program sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  REU’s are wonderful opportunities for students considering graduate school, medical or dental school, and for students who want a research experience at a different university.

An NSF REU is a multi-week summer research experience hosted by a university. If you are accepted to a REU, you will be provided with funds for travel to the site, lodging, a stipend, and a research mentor.

To find REU opportunities, do a Google search for “NSF REU.” On the NSF REU  site, click on “Search for an REU Site”. Click on a discipline to see the list of participating universities from across the United States. Obtain and complete an application from each university that you’d like to apply.

REU applications typically open by October and are due by February, so mark your calendar to check the site during Fall semester.
