FE Exam Prep

The following steps should be taken to become a professionally licensed engineer:

  1. Taking and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  2. Working for at least four years under a professional engineer to be eligible for taking the Professional Engineering (PE) exam.
  3. Taking and passing the PE exam.

The first step in becoming a professional engineer is to take the FE exam, which is a computer-based test with about 110 multiple-choice questions. This test is designed to measure your engineering knowledge. Usually, this test is taken during or right after undergraduate engineering studies. There are many benefits in taking and passing the FE exam, including higher earning potential and better career opportunities.

If awarded, the student will receive financial support covering tuition, fees, and other expenses for up to four years, as long as the student is a declared civil or mechanical engineering major and meets program academic requirements.

Program Highlights

  • 4-year full-ride scholarship (up to $7,500 per year)
  • Individualized mentoring
  • Internship and extracurricular opportunities
  • Be part of a student community

How to Apply

  1. Go to UVU Financial Aid & Scholarships and click “Apply Now”
  2. Complete the FAFSA for financial aid
  3. Tell us about yourself with a creative submission

Since engineering is a creative discipline, we'd like your submission to be creative as well. You can choose any format you'd like — text, audio/video, or mixed media (examples include a social media or YouTube video, a website, an e-portfolio, or something else you choose). Whichever format you choose, your submission should be the equivalent of a one-page document or a 2-3 minute video.
