Kade Bennett has enjoyed participating in the UVU vocal performance program for two years. Kade started singing at a young age, and quickly became involved in performing. There are many facets of the performing world that Kade enjoys wherein he has advanced experience: opera, musical theater, tap, and sound engineering. Kade has played roles such as Papageno in Die Zauberflӧte by Mozart, Jack Kelley in Newsies, and in January this year, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti. Kade is preparing to travel to Sicily in Italy to study voice and perform as Marcello and Schaunard in La Boheme by Puccini and Betto in Gianni Schicchi, also by Puccini. He is honored to perform with the UVU Orchestra.
Ivy Laine Gines has been a musician her whole life since learning the piano at age four. Twenty years
later, she has nearly finished a degree in Oboe Performance as a senior at Utah Valley
University. Previously, she attended Brigham Young University before transferring
in 2019.
Ivy has had extensive orchestral and solo playing experience. As a teenager in Colorado,
she performed a concerto with her high school orchestra and was a member of the Youth
Orchestra of the Rockies and the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. Collegiately, she
has performed with the BYU Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Philharmonic Orchestra;
the UVU Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Tea Time Wind Quintet; the Utah Valley
Symphony, and the Murray Symphony. In 2017, she performed the Mozart oboe concerto
as a soloist with the BYU Symphony Orchestra.
Music has awarded Ivy numerous travel opportunities. In 2014, she toured Europe with the
Denver Young Artists Orchestra. A year later, she toured Asia with the BYU Wind Symphony.
She can be heard on the CD recording of this tour program, “Timeless: Wind Band Dances
& Other Concert Favorites.” Ivy has twice attended the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival
in New York City.
A current student of Luca de la Florin, she has also studied with Geralyn Giovannetti
and Gary Moody. Outside of music, Ivy enjoys her job as a barista, making delicious
coffee, attempting to enjoy the outdoors, and playing video games.
Nathan Heyrend, freshman, studies cello with Professor Cheung Chau. Prior to attending UVU, Nathan served as principal cellist for various youth orchestras, and spent his summer working on his private pilot’s license. Nathan has performed as a soloist with the Lyceum orchestras, with Utah Valley Symphony, with American Fork Symphony, at the Vivace Young Artist concert, and was a finalist both times he auditioned with the Utah Symphony Salute to Youth. Nathan is a straight-A student, an English Education major, and enjoys good books, good music and good friends.
Mat Stokes, 24, from Spanish Fork, Utah, began studying the piano at age six. As a participant in festival competitions for the Utah Valley Federation of Music Clubs festivals, he was selected to perform in their Honors Recitals three times. As a violist, he has also performed with the Utah All-State Orchestra and the Utah Symphony. Mat is a third-year student at Utah Valley University, working towards earning a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral and Social Science.
