Gardens are fascinating. Especially to kids.
Bugs. Dirt. Birds. Flowers. Fruit.
Things to dig, things to climb.
Mysterious overgrowth. Places to hide. Shade. Sunshine.
Puddles. Fountains. Seeds, sprouts and blossoming.
And a cycling of seasons both comforting and unrelenting: Spring, Summer, Autumn,
Winter.
A walled garden is even more fascinating.
Why is it hidden? Why is it guarded? Who gets inside?
Sandra Lyn Asher has penned this play, which at first glance, seems unusual as Theatre for Young Audiences. A dying grandmother. Tween angst. Adult resentment. Childhood quarrels. And the action taking place within a narrow, weed-choked midsummer back yard. And yet, there are hidden roses to be found in this pocket sized mystery.
Does fiction help us to make peace with reality?
We invite you to peer through the fence’s knothole and wonder.
