On March 25, 2020, the UVU Board of Trustees approved these revised policies:
Policy 101 Policy on Policies
Sponsor: Linda Makin
Steward: Cara O’Sullivan
Approved Action: Two new sections were placed in Policy 101, which was approved as a Temporary Emergency policy.
4.2.3.4 In extraordinary circumstances in which the normal policy governance process cannot be conducted or proceed practically, the Board of Trustees may approve the extension of temporary emergency policies by six months beyond their previously approved expiration date. The Board shall not make this action selectively; it shall apply to all temporary emergency policies in effect at the time of Board action.
5.6.8 Pause of Policy Process in Extraordinary Circumstances
5.6.8.1 In extraordinary circumstances in which the normal policy governance process cannot be conducted or proceed practically, President’s Council may extend the regular policy process timeline. President’s Council shall not make this action selectively; it shall apply to all policy proposals currently in the regular policy process.
Policy 161 Freedom of Speech

Steward: Alexis Palmer, Jeremy Knee
Approved Action: The UVU Board of Trustees approved a limited-scope revision to Policy 161 Freedom of Speech. The proposed limited-scope revision in 4.9.2.2 allows UVU to decide in advance whether
masks present an unacceptable safety risk.
Six-Month Extensions for Established Temporary Emergency Policies
In accordance with new language in Policy 101, section 4.2.3.4 , the Board of Trustees approved a six-month extensions for all temporary emergency policies currently in effect:
- Policy 162 Sexual Misconduct
Extended to December 18, 2020 - Policy 165 Discrimination, Harassment, and Affirmative Action
Extended to December 18, 2020 - Policy 361 Leave of Absence
Extended to June 5, 2021
