Cara O'Sullivan, Policy Office Director
September 19, 2019
We’re just a few weeks into the new fiscal and academic year and it’s a time of reflection and planning. If your area’s plans include assessing the current university policies in your area of responsibility, updating current policies, or creating new ones, the Policy Office invites you to contact us for policy development training. This training is for also intended for those involved in UVU’s shared governance, such as elected leaders and senators of PACE, Faculty Senate, and UVUSA. Anyone serving in a leadership position from supervisor to vice president could benefit from this training as well, because at some point in your work you may be involved in policy development.
In the forty-five minute training session, you will learn how
- UVU’s shared governance functions and how the policy process supports it.
- The different policy processes work and when each is appropriate to use.
- University community members are empowered to provide input into policies that will affect them.
- Division vice presidents and their subject matter experts lead writing committees to produce policy and respond to and implement input from university community members.
- The Policy Office provides editorial support, research services, and project management expertise to support those involved in policy writing.
Your first experience with getting involved in the policy process can seem daunting—but armed with training and support, you can craft effective policies.
