UVU PREP FAQ

General Information

When is UVU PREP?

UVU PREP 2025 will be from June 2 – July 10, 2025.

How many days a week is the program?

The program runs from Monday – Friday for six weeks.

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:20 am – 3 pm
  • Friday: 8:20 am – 1 pm

Where is the program held?

UVU Orem Campus 800 W. University Parkway, Orem, UT 84058.

Students will be dropped off in front of the UVU library.

How much does UVU PREP cost?

UVU PREP is free for all participants.

Do I need to bring a lunch?

We will provide free breakfast and lunch.

What if I don’t have transportation to UVU?

You are responsible for arranging transportation for your child to and from UVU PREP each day. All participants will be provided with a free UTA/UVX pass that can be used for the duration of the program.

UVU PREP will provide transportation to and from field trip locations. 

Application Information

Who can apply for UVU PREP?

We can only accept incoming Year 1 students.

What are the requirements to apply for UVU PREP?

Incoming Year 1 students must be a current sixth grade students who attend public school in Alpine, Nebo, and Provo School Districts and have a 90% or better in mathematics. You will also need to provide the following with your application:

  • Current report card
  • Teacher recommendation
  • Essay about why you want to attend UVU PREP (100-150 words)

What is a teacher recommendation?

Each student applying for Year 1 is required to submit their math teacher’s name and email with their application. The teacher will receive an email with a link to a survey, in which they will rate the student regarding academic performance, conduct in class, willingness to participate in class, maturity, punctuality, eagerness to learn new things, etc.

When is the application deadline?

Applications for UVU PREP are due on January 31, 2025.

Attendance & Policies

What is the attendance policy?

Each child will be allowed three absences before probable dismissal from the program. These absences should be saved for sickness, family emergencies, and other unforeseeable situations.

Can my child miss UVU PREP to go to other camps (church camps, sports camps, etc.) or family vacations?

No. UVU PREP’s intensive curriculum moves quickly. Students will fall behind if they miss even one day.

What if my child has been absent three days and then gets sick?

If you have saved your absences for family emergencies and sicknesses, you may appeal absences by emailing the Program Coordinator at  .

What if my child misses more than three days because of a delayed or canceled flight?

Since absences should be saved for family emergencies or sickness, delayed or canceled flights are not acceptable reasons to miss more than three days of UVU PREP.

What if my child has missing assignments, and is not allowed to come to a Friday Field Trip, does this count as an absence?

Yes. Missing a field trip for any reason counts as an absence.

What is a “Zero Tolerance” policy?

UVU PREP maintains a strict policy on obedience and cooperation. This means your child will be dismissed from the program for cheating, bullying, disrespectful behavior, disregard for written or verbal rules, etc.

Classes & Homework

What should my child bring with them every day?

Completed homework A lunch (if they will not be eating the provided lunch) A pencil A backpack to carry materials

What courses will my student be taking?

Year 1 Classes Logic and Its Application to Mathematics Introduction to Engineering Problem Solving I Year 2 Classes Algebraic Structures Introduction to Physics Problem Solving II Year 3 Classes Math Innovation Introduction to Probability and Statistics Computer Science

All students will participate in daily Career Awareness Seminars, Tech T Day workshops, and four field trips.

Does UVU PREP assign homework?

Expect homework every night in every class. Homework should take 30 minutes to an hour.

Will I be able to help my student with their homework?

Because the homework is advanced math and science, we cannot guarantee that all parents will be able to help their children. We highly recommend the student take notes in class to take home both for homework help and to study. There will be a tutor table at lunch where they can ask for additional help.

What happens if my child does not complete a homework assignment?

After the third missed or incomplete homework assignment, the student will miss the upcoming Friday field trip taking an absence from the program. This absence will count towards the 3-day limit.

To help students who are falling behind, students who are missing three or more homework assignments will be asked to use the tutor table at lunch.
