STUDENT PROCTORIO GUIDEProctorio Troubleshooting Chart

Proctorio is an online third-party service that allows for proctored Canvas exams and quizzes to be taken at home on your personal computer. Proctorio can be accessed 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  This is not a live proctoring system.  Each testing session is recorded, and the software flags any suspicious behaviors for review by your professor.  The program also includes a lock down browser to prevent access to other digital files from the computer you are testing on.

Proctorio is simple to use, all you need is a personal computer equipped with a camera and microphone and a private space to set up as your testing environment.  Be advised, Google Chrome is the required browser for Proctorio use. Review the video and student instructions to prepare you for a successful testing experience.

Accessibility

Compliance Standard

Proctorio is compliant with WCAG 2.0 AA standards for students reliant upon screen readers and keyboard navigation. Please visitProctorio’s Accessibilitypage for more information.

Military

Students serving in the military and actively deployed may encounter limitations in using Proctorio.  In these cases, a student would need to contact their professor to utilize one of the Live Proctoring options for their exams.

Students with current accommodation

Additionally, students with a current accommodation letter sent formally to their instructor may, in limited cases, qualify to utilize a Live Proctoring option instead of using Proctorio. These students should not be held responsible for any fees associated with using a Live Proctoring option instead of Proctorio.  Contact theOffice of Accessibility Servicesfor details.

High Visibility Mode

  1. Log into your course on Canvas that uses Proctorio
  2. Select the quiz that uses Proctorio and continue through all the set up procedures.
  3. Before entering the quiz, click the link to “Learn more about Proctorio”
  4. Type accessibility into the search bar
  5. Select “What is high visibility mode?”
 

List of supportable screen readers

  1. Log into your course on Canvas that uses Proctorio
  2. Select the quiz that uses Proctorio and continue through all the set up procedures.
  3. Before entering the quiz, click the link to “Learn more about Proctorio”
  4. Type screen reader into the search bar
  5. Select “Our Recommended Screen Readers”
 

Live Proctoring Option

After receiving instructor approval for a Proctorio exception, email [email protected] to request the Live Proctoring option. Instructions will be emailed to you detailing the process for setting up a live proctor.
