Media Services offers the following services to students of UVU:
Media Services provides support to students using Media Enhanced Classrooms. This may include connecting laptops or other devices to the system. Students will need their Professor to turn the system on for them using his/her UVID. The Professor will also have to login to the Room Computer before students can use it.
Certain media equipment is available for checkout from the Library Circulation Desk on the First Floor.
A Media Enhanced Classroom (MEC) is a room that is equipped with a controlled ceiling mounted LCD projector that is capable of projecting a computer or video image onto a projection screen. The Control for this projector is a touch panel that is located on the top of the teacher station. All MECs have a podium that contains a connection for an external laptop and all the audio visual equipment * (i.e.: DVD, audio amp, audio mixer, video switcher). Operating instructions are posted on top of the podium. Some podiums are set up with internal desktop computers and document cameras.
Currently there are 3 levels or tiers of classrooms and conference rooms on campus: Basic, Standard and Premier as well as many other technology systems that are supported by Media Services and Engineering. All levels of MEC’s have Technology Support, trouble requests by phone (863-1111), email ([email protected]) and Text Messaging through the room touch panel.
The Basic System is a configuration that provides for video image display in a room from ether a Flat Panel or ceiling hung Projector. In most cases facilitators/ Instructors will need to bring in their own laptop or display device to connect into the system. A simple touch panel or button interface will facilitate turning on and off the system as well as changing the audio volume and inputs to the display. This system is scalable to become a standard system. The approximate cost of this system is $5000 dollars. Please note that this is a budgetary number and is a base-line reference only. The estimate is not meant to be used for the actual A/V budget of any project.
The second level of system is the Standard system. This system is the system that currently exists in most rooms on the UVU campus. It has the same features as a basic system with various additional items including extended touch panel control of sources. The approximate cost of this system is $12,000 dollars.
The highest level or tier of system is the Premier system. This system is a system that is different than the other two systems in that it uses matrix switching and gives the ability to annotate on all video sources. It has all the same features as a standard system with various additional items including more extensive touch panel control of sources. The approximate cost of this system is $24,000 dollars.
