UVU’s M.Ed. or Graduate Certificate in K-12 Educational Leadership is the best way to get into the principal’s office. Licensure in K-12 Educational Leadership allows educators to work in administrative roles in elementary and secondary schools as well as administration at the district level. This program allows educators with workplace experience to complete the requirements needed to apply for a Utah State Board of Education Leadership Area of Concentration License. Students completing the Master's degree will take additional coursework delving into current research in their areas of expertise and assessment of instruction.
You want to be a school principal.
You want to be a district administrator.
You want to be a school leader.
To be considered for admission, individuals interested in earning their M.Ed. at UVU must successfully complete all admission criteria:
Students who already have a Master's degree in an approved Master's content area may complete the Graduate Certificate option instead. Students must still complete an application.
The M.Ed. or Graduate Certificate program in K-12 Educational Leadership is based on the Utah Educational Leadership Standard Revisions and the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
Students are required to complete all USBE competency requirements through structured, supervised experiences embedded within coursework and clinical fieldwork.
Our program includes a solid foundation of essential leadership courses, core master’s courses, and coursework in current educational topics.
Our coursework and clinical program thoroughly address the competency areas required for state licensure, allowing students to engage in authentic administrative work with practicing administrators. Clinical experiences are embedded both in the courses and in the actual work of schools, giving our students the practical experiences necessary to become strong school leaders. Both M.Ed. and Graduate Certificate students will complete 3 credits of coursework to complete their Clinical Portfolio.
