Students who have completed all requirements and received an endorsement from the Utah State Board of Education attached to their Utah teaching license may apply up to 9 credit hours of graduate level (5000-level or above) coursework toward an M.Ed. with an endorsement emphasis at UVU*.

*Some requirements apply.

You want to utilize previously earned credit for your endorsement towards a Master of Education degree.

You want to delve deeper into the application of pedagogy for your endorsement.

You are  looking for a program that is only four semesters and has a practical Master’s Project.

To be considered for admission, individuals interested in earning their M.Ed. at UVU must successfully complete all admission criteria.

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum 3.0 grade point average in undergraduate work.
  3. Completion of all application criteria.
  4. Interview with School of Education Graduate Committee.

Coursework

Local school districts have partnered with UVU and other universities in the state to provide the required coursework for available endorsements. Please contact the Endorsement Program Coordinator at 801-863-7614 or [email protected] for more information on courses being offered in your area or on partnering with UVU to offer endorsement courses in your school or district.

About the Curriculum

The Endorsement Plus Emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. offers a comprehensive curriculum to enhance their teaching and mentoring at the school, district, and community levels. This emphasis reviews innovative instructional strategies, effective use of assessments for learning, and responsive curriculum design.

Upon completion of a USBE endorsement in any area, a teacher may apply 9 (approved 5000-level) earned credit hours toward a Master of Education degree at UVU. Students typically take the remaining 21 credit hours in four semesters starting in summer: one or two classes per semester in the evenings at 5-8 pm.

The curriculum aligns with the AAQEP accreditation learning standards and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards.

About the Master's Project as a Capstone

Near the end of the program, students complete a Capstone Project to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they've gained in the program and illustrate how prepared they are to lead their professional learning communities and to become a teacher leader/mentor.

Students have three options for their master’s project:

  1. A learning segment designed to advance teaching and learning
  2. A professional development addressing/intervening an educational issue
  3. A typical action research in education.
