The School of Education Graduate Programs offer several courses to educators enrolled in the Alternative Pathway to Professional Educator License (APPEL).
You will achieve a teaching license through APPEL. Your local school district will give you a Professional Learning Plan (PLP) for APPEL Pedagogy Courses, while the State office will give you a PLP for APPEL-SpEd.
APPEL pedagogy courses are administered by UVU, while APPEL-SpEd courses are administered through local education agencies (e.g., schools/districts) where educators are encouraged to work with their APPEL program advisors. Please note that registration is not through the general Utah Valley University course registration.
Registration for APPEL-SpEd will only be available through this website.
You want to become a licensed teacher.
You want to gain valuable experience to help you be successful as an educator.
You are looking to transition your career to education.
Please note current APPEL courses at UVU are focusing on secondary teaching even though those that pursue elementary teaching license may register.
