I am a former elementary teacher and currently work for the BYU ARTS Partnership as a program coordinator, helping to develop PD and train educators in arts integrated teaching. The Master's of Education program at UVU developed my knowledge and skills in the areas of andragogy, Universal Design for Learning, coaching models, action research, and more. What I learned has been valuable and empowering and will continue to be throughout my career in education.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and also my Administrative Certification through UVU. I'm now an Assistant Principal at Rocky Mountain Middle School in Heber! I valued how relevant the knowledge and skills I gained through UVU's programs were to my work as an educator and I felt very well prepared to both teach and transition to administration.

I am enjoying my time right now as assistant principal and building relationships with the students and staff in my school. Always being aware that we each have our own story and stuff that we bring with us every day in our metaphorical backpacks, I try my best to help lighten the load and create the best learning environment that I can.

This program gave me a great foundation to build a career in higher education administration and leadership. The faculty for the program brought their experiences and knowledge into the classrooms and presented it in a way that was designed to give both theoretical knowledge and practical application. And given that many of the faculty were in executive positions, their experience and knowledge was invaluable.

"Teacher efficacy can ensure that teachers have the ability to guide students to success. A teacher's efficacy belief is a judgment of his or her capabilities to bring about desired outcomes of student engagement and learning, even among those students who may be difficult or unmotivated" (Little, 2020).

The Higher Education Leadership master's program at UVU changed how I viewed not only the world around me, but myself as well. Through those two years, I learned how to tell my story in appreciation of all the different angles of why I was who I was, and the influences around me that molded and shaped my lens. In my current role, I now am able to help students, alumni, faculty, and staff to tell their stories, and it is empowering. I find great satisfaction through it.

I was part of the first cohort of the Master's of Higher Education Leadership program. I wanted to earn a degree that would be taught in person and not online. While COVID struck during this time, giving us a "hybrid" experience, it added an online modality as well that proved valuable as I have moved forward in my career. I was lucky enough to be taught by current UVU leadership in all aspects of the rigor of the degree.

The practical research experience I gained from my graduate degree at UVU has helped me advance in my career! By planning and implementing action research in my program of study, I gained the knowledge and skills necessary to accept a position as an ELL Instructional Coach in my school district. I was able to take my passion of teaching English Language Learners to the next level by working school-wide to provide the resources and support systems that our students and teachers need.
