Global Student Leadership Council Requirements

The Student Global Leadership Program is an opportunity to learn about leadership via actively participating in events and mentoring from experienced global leaders and citizens.  This is a 2 semester commitment, with continuation in the program dependent on successfully completing all requirements during the first semester.  

 

Requirements to Apply

  • Any student who possess a 3.0 GPA at the time of application.
  • Be enrolled in and complete 12 credit hours each semester (Full-time).
  • Letter of intent
  • Resume (with photo)
  • Unofficial Transcript (no older than 2 weeks from date of application)
  • Must be able to commit for two semesters, Fall and Spring
  • Spring semester participation depends on satisfactory completion of Fall semester requirements.

Program Participant Expectations

  • All meetings require in-person attendance
  • Any communication regarding absence or delay needs to be sent via GSLC Teams Chat
  • Come on time! Dont be late!

  • Attend Student Retreat at UVU - Friday August 16, 2024. 9:00am - 1:00pm)
  • Attend Bi-monthly Meetings (first and third Wednesday of the month at 12:00 -12:50pm in LA 210b)

Program Participant Required Events

  • Attend and participate in 4 department sponsored events per semester, including:
    • Global Spotlights (1-2 events monthly)
    • Really Really Free Market (for at least 1 hour and can only counts as one event).
    • Model UN (early February) This event lasts a few hours.
    • United Nations Days events (i.e., UN Day, International Peace Day, International Mother Language Day, International Women’s Day)
    • Other events organized by the Office for Global Engagement (Conferences, Dignatary Visit).
    • Failure to partipate in 4 events, during the semester, automatically disqualifies student from the subsequent semester.
  • Organize one Global Spotlight per semester
    • Program participants are required to organize one Global Spotlight event, with a faculty member, per semester. Global Spotlights raise awareness of a global issue  and must include and international component. More information about Global Spotlights can be found here.
    • Program participants will work with Office for Global Engagement staff for guidance and support.
    • Organize one Global Spotlight event with a teacher per semester.  Fall Proposal due: September 6, 2024.
    • Failure to complete this requirement automatically disqualifies student from the subsequent semester.
  • Lead one Global Discussion per academic year:
    • Select a country or region of the world you will focus on.
    • Lead a global discuussion on a specific topic during our GSLC meeting time. This can be expanded to bring in a broader campus audience or as a collaboration with another UVU department or club.
    • Discussion must raise awareness of a global issue, with a defined international component.
    • Failure to complete this requirement automatically disqualifies student from the subsequent semester.

 

Program Participant Benefits

  • Learn leadership, communication, teamwork, organization, and public speaking skills.
  • Gain an increased ability to present yourself, the passions you wish to explore, and the kind of leader you want to be to universities and future employers.
  • Interact with foreign dignitaries and UN representatives.
  • Receive a $1000 tuition scholarship for each semester (Fall and Spring*). Spring semester participation depends on satisfactory completion of Fall semester requirements.
