Rudolph “Rudy” Moise, Ambassador-at-Large for the Republic of Haiti, will be speaking during a Jan. 29 lecture sponsored by Utah Valley University’s Office of International Affairs & Diplomacy. The lecture will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Sorensen Center 206a.
Moise was appointed Ambassador-at-Large in April 2014 by President Michel Martelly. Born in Port-au-Prince, Moise moved to the United States at age 17, where he dedicated himself to learning English and completing his high school education. He eventually earned an MBA from the University of Miami, a doctorate degree in osteopathy from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and a juris doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law. Moise also holds a flight surgeon degree from the US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine and has served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
The ambassador has enjoyed successful careers in several fields, including work as a primary care physician, an attorney, an Air Force officer, an entrepreneur and an actor. Since 1984, he has been the president and medical director of Comprehensive Health Center in North Miami. He also serves on the board of directors of United Way of Miami-Dade, as CEO of Physicians Access Urgent Care Group, as vice president of Access Healthcare and as founder and president of the Kenbe Foundation.
Because of his remarkable background and experience, Moise was uniquely prepared to help after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010. He traveled to Haiti with a disaster rescue team and helped with everything from pulling people from the rubble to administering life-saving medical care. He continued his work long after the initial rescue period, collecting and shipping more than 300,000 donated items to Haiti. His work as an ambassador is a continuation of this service to his home country.
All UVU students are welcome to attend this lecture, which is also open to the public. The lecture is sponsored by the Office of International Affairs & Diplomacy, which actively supports the University’s global engagement efforts by advancing UVU’s presence and prestige in the international community; helping UVU students become globally competent graduates; and promoting cultural literacy and diversity both on campus and in the community.
