In a large scale disaster phone lines will be congested and it will be difficult to
successfully make a phone call. In an emergency, send a text message. Texting has
a better chance of being sent and received. Resist the urge to make a phone call unless
you need immediate assistance.
Benjamin Franklin said "If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail". Preparedness
is an individual responsibility and a community effort. In a large scale disaster
you could be on your own for days or even weeks. Emergency responders will be overwhelmed.
They will also be focused on responding and containing situations to prevent further
harm and loss of life. The better prepared you are the more you increase your resilience
and overall community resilience.
