Personal Financial Planning Alumni
McKenna Jacobsen is a financial planner, outdoor lover, baseball fan, WSB Alumni, and part of the Woodbury School of Business.
Full of Wolverine spirit, McKenna is proud to be an alumnus of a school who helps their students be ready for the real world. Her passion for financial planning first began as a child when she started investing in the stock market. She enjoyed learning how the financial markets and industry operated. The final decision to study financial planning was made when she lived in Kentucky serving an LDS mission. There she served people who were living in poverty and McKenna discovered first-hand the distress that comes into someone’s life when their finances are in disarray.
After finishing her LDS mission in Kentucky, McKenna returned home and started an application to another university. However, that application was never completed. McKenna was hooked by Utah Valley University (UVU) and its caring professors. Not only was UVU the only school in Utah state with a personal financial planning degree but it was filled with professors who spent one-on-one time with McKenna to ensure her understanding of the material and her success.
McKenna was inspired to get involved with the Money Management Resource Center (MMRC) and friends also influenced McKenna to join the Personal Financial Planning Student Association (PFPSA). These two programs not only taught McKenna how to manage her own personal finances but how to have good coaching skills to help others manage finances. Most financial planners at McKenna's current firm do not lead meetings with clients until they have five years of experience, however, McKenna was invited to lead meetings immediately after graduation. McKenna credits this achievement to the experience she had with MMRC which was a valuable and note-worthy program McKenna’s firm recognized.
“Not only are we taught the knowledge, but we're also taught the skills necessary to succeed in our career paths,” says McKenna. “Not every university does this,” she shares. McKenna loves to golf, has 10 chickens, recently ran her first marathon, and loves all outdoor activities. She enjoys seeing the peace of mind that comes into people’s lives when their finances are in order. McKenna is Woodbury.
