UVU Macc Student Wins $10,000 Scholarship

“We’re fortunate that the PCAOB continues to include UVU on its list of universities to qualify for the scholarship each year. The caliber of students we submit to them as nominees is a big factor in that choice. We really do have some fabulous students!”

We are proud to recognize our fellow wolverine and Master of Accountancy Student Meili Willey as the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from the PCAOB!

The PCAOB is a nonprofit organization oversees audits of public companies in order to protect investors and further public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate, and independent audit reports. Meili has served as Beta Alpha Psi president here at UVU and is currently working as a hair stylist and interning with Ernst and Young.

To UVU students seeking scholarships, Meili recommends a heavy focus on networking. “Participate in as many extracurricular activities as you can. I found that by networking with faculty, I was able to hear about opportunities, or by talking to students, I was able to see what they’d done. It was helpful at those events to ask people ‘what are you doing?’ And then people will get to know you and share opportunities with you.”

Meili’s goals include obtaining her CPA and working in accounting while enjoying working with people and traveling.

Faculty member Marty Van Wagoner, CPA, said the following about the award: “We’re fortunate that the PCAOB continues to include UVU on its list of universities to qualify for the scholarship each year. The caliber of students we submit to them as nominees is a big factor in that choice. We really do have some fabulous students!”
