Enactus and the Season of Giving
The season of gratitude and giving is here! Here at Utah Valley University, we have
a lot to be grateful for. Rich education, strong community, and endless opportunity
are just a few of the many gifts we have been given, and the holiday season is the
perfect time for us to pay forward these privileges and opportunities.
Our mission at Enactus is to give to those who have limited access to the resources--both
extraordinary and mundane--that we have been given. We tend to take things for granted,
forgetting that in other parts of the world and even our communities, people are struggling
every day to obtain basic necessities. For example, we each have the potential to
have sustainable income, the knowledge the provide this income, and access to good-quality
living conditions. For some Armenian people, these are not an option. Project Armenia’s
goal is to provide opportunities for learning and growth. Our Sewing S.O.L. project
is also working to provide a knowledge of business principles and resources to establish
businesses in a place where these resources are not readily available. Even something
as common as a phone is not available for many people in Ghana. Project Ghana is working
to make business opportunities for providing phone minutes to people. And in our own
community in Utah Valley, refugees are in desperate need of a place to sleep, along
with physical and emotional stability and support.
At Enactus, we have learned that giving to communities around the world brings a sense
of satisfaction and joy that we wouldn’t find anywhere else. As we show gratitude
for the opportunities that we have, we seek to make these opportunities possibilities
for people all over the world. This holiday season, consider joining us at one of
our holiday events, donating to our cause, or getting involved in a project so that
we can pay it forward.
