Ben Perkins, founder of Blue and White Collar, took home $4,000 at UVU’s Opportunity Quest. Opportunity Quest is an executive summary business plan competition open to all UVU students. Individuals or teams can submit entries, but each entry must include a current UVU student in a prominent leadership role. The competition is designed to foster the students' entrepreneurial mindset through experiential education and to connect them with other entrepreneurs. Students create, develop, and present their business concepts to a panel of judges experienced in entrepreneurship.
The judging panel for the competition consisted of Amy Rees Anderson, managing partner at Rees Capital; Brian P. Murphy, managing member at Portfolio Advisors LLC; Carine Clark, CEO of Banyan; James Endicott, managing partner and founder of Serento Ventures; Jeff Flamm, CEO and founder of Infinite Mind, L.C.; David Jolley, EY Americas growth market leader at Ernst & Young LLP; and Ray Zinn, former CEO of Micrel.
Ten student companies competed: Ashley Peabody with AdventureMore, Austyn Vickers with Guuru, Ben Perkins with Blue and White Collar, Grant LaMont with SideCoach, James Reber with My Tribe, Michael Claflin with PillowFace, Drew Gunderson with Genesis Clean Energy, Morgan Davis with Say More, Alex Hoffman with Vestid, and Ben Park with Bab-Eaze Nursing Covers.
The winners were:
1st place- Ben Perkins with Blue and White Collar who received $4,000.
2nd place- Morgan Davis and Mark Sumsion with Say More, who received $2,000.
3rd place- Drew Gunderson with Genesis Clean Energy, who received $1,000.
Finalists will have a chance to compete in the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge, a state-wide business model competition with a grand prize of $40,000. That competition is hosted at the University of Utah, and will take place March 30.
