What advice do you have for someone who's having trouble getting a credit card?
Start with a secured credit card or a credit card with a low available credit limit. Another option is to open up whatever credit card you can qualify for, and then you do not even need to use the card. Just having the account open with the available credit limit will start to show that you have paid on time each month because you are purchasing nothing each month and paying what you owe ($0) on time each month. This will slowly build your credit score until you can qualify for credit with better options and incentives.
Do you think credit cards will become easier or harder to get in the next 12 months?
Credit will become more difficult for consumers to get access to in the next 12 months. Especially if you are younger or have no credit history or relatively short credit history and an unsteady stream of income. With unemployment around 15% right now, there will be more people that need access to credit, but lenders will need to raise interest rates, lower available credit limits, or be more restrictive in lending to borrowers with irregular, unreliable income streams or who have had past delinquencies or bankruptcy.
