Student Spotlight: Cooper Opp and the Journey to a Dream Job

“Go to class, go to the job fairs. Don’t hesitate to reach out, reaching out for help is exactly what we are in school for. Being able to reach out and utilize your resources is huge. I wouldn’t be where I am if I hadn’t reached out to Jacob, Amy, and Dale.”

We want to extend warm congratulations to recent Business Administration graduate Cooper Opp! At Utah Valley University, great students are given help to achieve their goals, their way. For Cooper, this meant graduating with a bachelor degree, creating a career path, and beginning a great job after graduation.

Cooper finished high school during the Covid-19 pandemic and quickly earned his associates at another university. When he transferred to UVU, he studied while working full-time in sales. The academic advisement office helped Cooper plan his degree and graduate a year earlier than expected. To improve his professional outlook, Cooper took a professional sales class from Dale Jolley while searching for a new job.  Cooper has always been friendly and open with people, and the class helped him start looking in the right direction.

Speaking of Cooper, Associate Dean Jacob Sybrowsky said, “He’s a great student with a great story who just landed a great job.” Jacob guided Cooper in his job search and referred him to Amy Saville, the Woodbury School of Business internship coordinator. After meeting with Amy, Cooper attended a career and internship fair at UVU and introduced himself to Navan, which turned out to be a perfect career option. The sales education Cooper received at UVU was essential for the hiring process with Navan, as Cooper used what he was learning week by week to prepare for each round of interviews. Now, Cooper is enjoying the beginning of a great career with comprehensive benefits.

For current students, Cooper had the following advice: “Go to class, go to the job fairs. Don’t hesitate to reach out, reaching out for help is exactly what we are in school for. Being able to reach out and utilize your resources is huge. I wouldn’t be where I am if I hadn’t reached out to Jacob, Amy, and Dale.” We couldn’t agree more. Congratulations, Cooper!
