Business Students Receive Five of 12 National Scholarships from TD Ameritrade

Mana Angilau, Kevin Cowan, Alex Graham, Madisen Karlson, and Colton Peck received five of 12 national TD Ameritrade NextGen scholarships worth $5,000 each.

Woodbury School of Business Personal Financial Planning (PFP) students Mana Angilau, Kevin Cowan, Alex Graham, Madisen Karlson, and Colton Peck received five of 12 national TD Ameritrade NextGen scholarships worth $5,000 each.

All twelve scholarship winners, including Angilau, Cowan, Graham, Karlson, and Peck, will be in New York City today at 4 p.m. EST to ring the closing bell on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange to celebrate their achievement and to help raise awareness of career opportunities in the financial planning field.

Angilau currently works for Integrated Financial Group, LLC as an Investment Specialist and plans to become a paraplanner and later an advisor. “My dream is to help families and individuals prepare for any financial goals and dreams they may have,” said Angilau. “Eventually I want to run my own firm.”

Cowan moved his family to Utah after receiving great recommendations about UVU’s PFP program. “I will never regret that decision to come to UVU,” said Cowan. “It has been amazing to be a part of this top-notch, nationally ranked PFP program and to be trained, educated, and have the endless experiences and opportunities that are available to PFP students here!” He currently holds a 4.0 GPA and is doing an internship with Ameriprise Financial.

Graham chose the PFP program because of the opportunity to pursue a lifelong career in a field geared towards interacting and helping people. He’s currently doing an internship at LJCooper Capital Management as a paraplanner. “TD Ameritrade is incredibly generous to offer such a scholarship in efforts to build the RIA future and I am very grateful to be selected as one of its scholarship recipients,” said Graham.

Karlson enrolled at UVU because of the engaged learning, hands-on experience. As part of the program, Karlson has traveled to San Diego; Nashville, Tenessee; and Orlando for professional conferences. She volunteers in the Money Management Resource Center at UVU and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. She plans to sit for the Certified Financial Planning exam in March.

Peck keeps busy as a full-time PFP student as well as a full-time employee at Zions Bank doing wealth management and planning. Studying personal financial planning allows Peck to pursue his passion for helping people and work with numbers. “The Woodbury School of Business faculty, advisors, and staff have been instrumental in helping me further my love for business,” Peck said.

The PFP program is one of only a limited number of dedicated bachelor programs in PFP located within an AACSB accredited school of business. For more information, visit https://www.uvu.edu/financeeconomics/degrees/index.html.
