I graduated summa cum laude from UVU with a bachelor’s degree in marketing—while also receiving the 2021 UVU Outstanding Marketing Student Award. After graduating, I traveled the country in a renovated camper with my fiancé and four rabbits while working remotely as a Business Writing Consultant at the UVU Business Writing Lab. Towards the end of our travels, I was hired as a middle school art teacher and adjunct professor at UVU, and that’s where I discovered my love for teaching. Although this was different than previous jobs I had held—like being the Marketing Director for the UVU Men’s Hockey Team—I knew my background in marketing/business would allow me to have a unique, creative, and fun approach for students no matter what subject was being taught. Therefore, I know furthering my education, and pursuing my passion of teaching, will allow me to provide students with experiences to solve real-world problems while also falling in love with learning—much like I did.

Christopher comes to UVU’s MBA program after having obtained his BS degree from BYU in Facilities & Property Management. Upon graduation Chris accepted a position with Terracon Consultants, Inc. where he was charged with advancing Property and Facility Conditions Assessments throughout California and Utah. During his two and half years with Terracon, Chris pursued a Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Development from the University of Utah.
Before joining Terracon, Chris has completed several internships, engaging in facilities
and asset management work, for companies including Nu Skin Enterprises, The Boeing Company,
and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at their corporate headquarters. One long
term career goal Chris is currently striving towards is to become a C-suite executive officer
for a
Fortune 500 company.
Chris was born in Southern California but grew up in Northern New Jersey amongst the
Corporate Headquarters of several global corporations, including Lucent Technologies-Bell
Labs and Honeywell, where his father served as the Vice-President of Global Security. Exposure
to
those business environments at an early age instilled within him an appreciation of
the complexities associated with doing business in a global marketplace and the differing
cultures that make up that environment.
An appreciation of differing aspects of culture was bolstered by two years of missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, spent among the Spanish-speaking communities of New Mexico and Texas. Those cultural sensitivities were further enhanced by his membership in the Choctaw Indian Nation. One of his ancestral grandfathers, whose parents perished on the “trail of tears,” survived to be adopted into a pioneer family in Oklahoma.
Both Chris’ grandfather and older brother have rendered service in the U.S. Air Force, his grandfather as a pilot in Vietnam and his brother as a JAG officer. His association with them has instilled within him an understandable interest in national security matters and their relevance in the corporate world.
Chris enjoyed water sports and spent time growing up as a certified lifeguard, which certification he obtained while in pursuit of his Eagle Scout Award. He also enjoys pursuing volunteer service activities of various kinds, particularly community events such as rodeos and other celebratory gatherings. Chris’s other hobbies and interests include hiking, enjoying nature, history, food, spending time with good company, and classic films.
Chris Ruddy is the head of HR & Operations at Skill Struck, a local education technology firm. A native of San Diego, California, Chris grew up working at his father's surfboard company, and still helps out with business operations from time to time. When he's not working, Chris loves to spend time with his wife traveling, collecting vintage records, and doing family genealogy. With his MBA, Chris hopes to have a greater impact on the companies where he works, in roles related to operations, human resources, and finance. This includes Skill Struck, his current employer, and his father's surfboard company.

A committed lifetime learner, I am excited to start a new chapter with UVU’s MBA program. One of my favorite things to do is talk with people. Throughout the MBA experience, the thing that excites me most is the opportunity to meet new people and build relationships. With a diverse range of interests and hobbies I connect well with nearly everyone I meet. Some of my interests and hobbies consist of golf, following New York Yankees Baseball, reading books about the stock market, and playing with my 7 month old son. I work in banking, as a loan officer.
