About John
John earned his B.A. in East Asian Studies and Sociology summa cum laude from Harvard
University, and was the first graduate of Harvard’s integrative Ph.D. program in Organizational
Behavior. He was the originator of The Economist’s Business Professor of the Year
award. He was formerly Director of International Research at Accenture and a Consultant
and Senior Advisor to the CEOs at both Monitor Group and Jump Associates.
He has taught or held leadership positions at universities like Harvard, UCLA, USC, Thunderbird, Arizona State, the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore), IMD (Switzerland), IPADE (Mexico), Ivey Business School (Canada), ESMT (Germany), and in Japan: Doshisha, Globis, and International University of Japan. He has advised many corporate CEOs and top government officials in countries like Bhutan, Indonesia, Rwanda; in Cambodia he served as the senior strategic advisor to the first democratically elected prime minister for several years and helped draft the country’s constitution.
He has authored hundreds of articles and ten books including the critically acclaimed (and best selling): The Attention Economy, The Kids are Alright, and Good vs Good. His books have been translated into eleven languages. He has appeared on CNN, CBS Evening News, BBC, Fox News and NPR. He is quoted and cited in The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Financial Times, The New York Times, and other leading outlets.
