About Brent

Brent Thomson

Brent just might be the least likely computer programmer you’ve ever met. While growing up in Escalante, Utah, he didn’t spend a lot of time on a computer or playing video games—instead, he enjoyed playing sports, and “making stuff.” Brent spent some time as an electrical engineer major at BYU where he discovered his interest in computer coding at age 21. While in his Jr. year at BYU Brent started his first company, fueling his passion for Business Management. It only took him 9 years, but he graduated from BYU with computer science major, and business management minor. In past lives, Brent has been a dishwasher, firefighter, landscaper, short-order cook, shooting instructor, missionary, author, DJ, system administrator, investor, and software engineer. Brent started a software development company in 1999. After selling that company, he founded Jive Communications in 2006 and served as CEO for the next five years. After leaving Jive, traveling, and playing for a few years, Brent and the Co- founder launched Blip in 2016. Today he serves as the CEO of Blip and finds passion around building something that solves a specific problem for many small- and medium-sized businesses. Brent is a husband, father, an avid mountain biker, and still enjoys “making stuff.”
