Take CliftonStrengths for Students Assessment
This assessment provides you with an in-depth analysis of your top five strengths. These unique five strengths have less than a 1-33 million chance of someone having the same five like you. Contact your WSB Academic Advisor to receive a code and set up a coaching appointment.
Knowing your top five strengths is one thing, putting them into action is another; this is what a Strengths Coach can do for you.
Your Sophomore year is a great time to gain EXPOSUREinto the career options in your major. Take advantage of networking opportunities and gain practical experience. Meet with a Career Counselor and create a career map
Career Counselors in the CDC are specifically trained and experienced in preparing
students to transition from college to employment.
Participate in a job shadow
Job shadows can give you a quick and instructive view of a particular industry, company,
or position to identify potential internship opportunities.
Research internship opportunities within your major and register for SLSS 281R - Elective
Credit Internship
Internships not only give you a competitive advantage when you graduate over those
who don't do one, but they also give you critical on-site experience to better prepares
you on what to expect in your field.
Participate in a Handshake Networking Event
During the fall and spring semesters, there are anywhere from 10-20 career events
that directly connect you to potential employers.
Earn a LinkedIn Learning Certification
By engaging in LinkedIn Learning you will begin to develop a strong unique selling proposition to use in your brand
Now that your major is decided, your junior year is the time to start building your professional brand and customizing your career tools. Take the time to make your resume and LinkedIn shine. Develop your experience with internships, professional clubs, case studies, or course-related projects. A professional edge can be gained by seeking opportunities to INTERACT with business professionals. |

Complete a Career-Focused Internship
There is nothing that you can do while in college that will make you more employable

Update Handshake and LinkedIn profiles to include projects and certifications
Having a strong online brand is essential to effective networking and successfully
navigating the hiring process.

Use your internship network to build connections and progress your career goals.
Your internship will provide you with a significant advantage in connecting with other
individuals, both within and outside of the company
Participate in a Career and Internship Fair or another career-related event on Handshake
There is no single event or opportunity larger than the Career and Internship Fair
in meeting with potential employers.
Begin submitting applications for employment after graduation at least 6 months in
advance
Waiting until you graduate to begin applying for jobs is too late. The average time
it takes to fill a position after it is posted is 3-6 months.
Complete a senior "Exit Interview" with a Career Counselor
This will provide helpful feedback to the WSB and CDC on how we can better prepare
students going forward.
Take advantage of mock interviews to help you confidently land your dream job (Standout)
With the advent of on-demand (online) interviews, Standout will be an essential tool
in preparing you for a unique interview setting.
Schedule a final resume review with a Career Counselor in the CDC
These hiring professionals will give you a very needed objective review of your resume
in order to prepare you for the hiring process.
Complete the WSB "Critical Thinking" Senior Survey
