Christina Baum

Christina Baum became CIO and Vice President of Digital Transformation in June of 2022. She joined UVU in October of 2020 as the Associate Vice President of Academic and Student Digital Services in Digital Transformation. She earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in Business Management from Washington State University. She has experience in information technology, communications, and product and project management. Prior to coming to UVU, she served as the Chief Information Officer for Ensign College (formerly known as LDS Business College). Additionally, she worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ IT department and many other technology and engineering companies. As a first generation college graduate herself, Christina is passionate about using technology to remove barriers to student success and to create an engaging learning environment.

Known for an innovative approach to content and data-driven storytelling, Jody excels at scaling brands, optimizing marketing spend, and enhancing user engagement across diverse media channels.

Cortney Brewerton Headshot

Cortney Brewerton

A native of Magrath, Alberta, Canada, Mr. Brewerton is a multi-tour U.S. combat veteran having spent 30 years with the military as an USAF officer, defense contractor, and DoD civilian. Cortney entered the military in 1985 at Lackland AFB, TX. From 1986 - 1990, Cortney was stationed at RAF Alconbury and RAF Bentwaters, UK. In 1989, he was one of the first non-pilot officers selected to and graduate from the elite USAF Weapons School. From 1990 - 1992, Mr. Brewerton was assigned to the 23rd Fighter Wing, England AFB, Louisiana, where he deployed to SW Asia. From 1992 - 1995 Cortney was a Special Weapons Tactics officer at Kelly AFB, Texas. Later, from 1995 - 1998, he was assigned as Assistant Professor, Aerospace Studies at Brigham Young University. Then from 1998 - 2001, Cortney served as a Deputy Director, Special Operations Command South (SOCSO). In 2001, Cortney was assigned as Lead Special Weapons Tactics officer for US Joint Forces Command. After retiring from active duty in 2005, Mr. Brewerton was employed as a Special Operations and Weapons defense contractor for US Joint Forces Command. Then in 2007, Cortney transferred to Colorado Springs as the Team Lead, Special Weapons and Senior Defense Analyst in the Standing Joint Force HQ/SOC-North, and USNORTHCOM/J3 and J5 Directorates. In 2016, Cortney entered the private sector as a senior technical project manager in the cybersecurity, IT networking, and market research spaces. Mr. Brewerton earned a B.A., Political Science from Brigham Young University and a M.A., Public Administration from Webster University.

Laura Busby has dedicated most of her career to data and analytics, building expertise in data management, business intelligence, and process improvement. Before joining Utah Valley University (UVU) in 2003, Laura spent 15 years in software companies during the pre-Silicon Slopes era, supporting sales, marketing, and education by creating training courses, organizing events, managing certification data, and forecasting worldwide sales.

At UVU, Laura has played a pivotal role in supporting both Academic and Student Affairs, contributing to class scheduling, curriculum development, faculty support, academic technology, student data analytics, and process improvement, all aimed at enhancing university operations and student outcomes. Recently, her responsibilities have expanded to include data governance and management, aligning with UVU’s mission of promoting student success. In February 2023, Laura was appointed Director of Business Intelligence and Research Services after the merger of the Institutional Research and Business Intelligence teams. In this role, she leads efforts to align data analytics initiatives with UVU's strategic goals and serves as the university’s Data Privacy Officer.

Laura holds a B.S. in Information Technology and an A.S. in Business Management, both from UVU, where she was a first-generation student balancing her studies with professional work. Outside of work, she enjoys time with family and friends, engaging in needlework, reading, music, and caring for her four-legged children.

Ivana Fredotovic Headshot

Ivana Fredotovic

Ivana brings extensive experience in higher education, institutional research, and analytics. She is the inaugural Chief Data Officer at Weber State University, focusing on developing data strategy, enhancing data governance, and fostering a data informed culture on campus. Previously, Ivana served as Director of Research and Data Analytics at Miami Dade College and held multiple roles in institutional research at Barry University in Florida. She holds a Doctorate in Leadership and Education from Barry University. Ivana actively participates in national and regional professional organizations, advisory boards, and community-based research projects, promoting data literacy, organizational transparency, and effective data governance.

Dr. Sam Gedeborg is the Sr. Director for Academic Planning and Effectiveness at UVU where he supports program analysis and effectiveness. Previously, he worked a little over a decade in the Office of Teaching and Learning at UVU. He earned a Ph.D. in Education from Utah State University. Additionally, he earned a Master of Educational Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Boise State University.

Nathan Gerber, Associate Vice President of Partner Solutions Technology Support at UVU, continues to innovate technology solutions for student success, faculty, and classroom support, and assists in creating the transformational culture needed for improved digital experiences. He focuses on helping institutions work through the culture, strategy and process, and technology shifts to provide seamless transformed experiences. Since 1994, Nathan has been a UVU Wolverine and loves working with the UVU community as a collaborative partner to supporting student success. As a speaker, consultant, and entrepreneur, he has gained the expertise to head in the right direction with the flexibility of turning when necessary. Nathan is a devoted father of 5 children and loving husband. You'll often hear Nathan say, "I've never met any technology that is as good-looking as my wife."

Beckie Hermansen Headshot

Beckie Hermansen is a higher education professional with nearly three decades of experience in student affairs, institutional research, and accreditation. Currently, she is the Assistant Commissioner of Analytics for the Utah System of Higher Education. Previous successful experiences include roles as a Commissioner and Evaluator for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the Director of Institutional Research at Snow College, the Director of Student Activities at Snow College, and a Residence Life and Student Services Specialist at Heidelberg College in Ohio. She holds degrees from Brigham Young University (BA in English with University Honors), Bowling Green State University (MA in Guidance and Counseling, MA in College Student Personnel), and Utah State University (EdD in Curriculum and Instruction). Beckie is an avid defender of the transformative power of education and the role of data in supporting and effectively communicating that narrative. She’s also a serial solution-focused thinker, strategist, statistician, sports enthusiast, outdoors person, wife, mother, and murderino.

Chad Johnson is the Director of Admissions at Utah Valley University. He has worked full-time in the recruitment and admissions profession at UVU since 2012 and just wrapped up his time serving as the Implementation Captain for the new Recruitment & Admissions CRM at UVU, Element451. Chad earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management at UVU and his MBA from the University of Utah.

Jeffery Johnson Headshot

Jeffery Johnson

Jeffrey Alan Johnson is a pioneering, internationally recognized leader in strategic planning, institutional research and effectiveness, and information ethics with more than two decades’ experience in higher education. He is currently the Higher Education Privacy Officer for the Utah System of Higher Education, where he protects the data privacy of more than 200,000 students at 16 institutions ranging from technical colleges to research intensive universities. He has previously led institutional research and effectiveness teams at Wartburg College and Utah Valley University. His research on information justice, presented most thoroughly in the book Toward Information Justice: Technology, Politics, and Policy for Data in Higher Education Administration (New York: Springer, 2018), is considered foundational in the study of social justice issues in information. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1996.

Quinn Koller is the Director, Accreditation and Academic Assessment at UVU. He has been in this role for 11 years and supports Institutional accreditation and all the specialized accreditations at UVU. Quinn has a wealth of experience in accreditation, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance in higher education within the U.S. and several other countries.

Carrie Mayne

Carrie Mayne is the Chief Economist. Formerly, Mayne was the Chief Economist and Director of Workforce Research and Analysis at Utah’s Department of Workforce Services, where she was employed for 14 years. She and her staff produced a wide array of tools to aid the public in understanding the state’s workforce. Mayne is a member of the Utah Economic Council and the Governor’s Child Support Guidelines Advisory Committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah and is working toward completing her doctorate in the same field. Her areas of expertise include labor economics, econometrics, and statistics.

Jim Mortensen is the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Auxiliary Services at Utah Valley University, where he oversees the university’s $350 million annual budget and $200 million in investments. Prior to this role, he spent ten years teaching in UVU’s MBA program, specializing in strategy and consulting, and was instrumental in creating partnerships with Silicon Slopes. Jim's professional background includes over 25 years of international leadership experience, including seven years as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton in Saudi Arabia, where he developed expertise in cross-cultural consulting and strategic development. He also founded Idyllwood Investments, LLC, leading real estate development projects and fostering key partnerships. Throughout his career, Jim has excelled in strategy development, project management, and building impactful collaborations across diverse sectors.

Jordan Morrow Headshot

Jordan Morrow is known as the "Godfather of Data Literacy", having helped pioneer and invent the entire field. He is also the founder and CEO of Bodhi Data and currently is the Senior Vice President of Data & AI Transformation for AgileOne, helping to utilize data and AI in the total talent management space. Jordan is a global trailblazer in the world of data literacy and enjoys his time traveling the world speaking and/or helping companies. He served as the Chair of the Advisory Board for The Data Literacy Project, has spoken at numerous conferences around the world, and is an active voice in the data and analytics community. He has also helped companies and organizations around the world, including the United Nations, build and/or understand data literacy.

When not found within his work of Data, Jordan is married with 5 kids. Jordan loves fitness and has run multiple ultra marathons. He loves to travel with his wife and family. Jordan loves to read, often reading (or using Audible) to go through multiple books at a time. Jordan is the author of three books: Be Data Literate, Be Data Driven, and Be Data Analytical.

Rasha Qudisat Headshot

Dr. Qudisat first joined UVU in April 2015 as the Director of Engaged Curriculum and was later promoted to the Program Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Works in 2017. Through her service with the Jordanian government as a minister advisor, Dr. Qudisat worked as an evaluator for the World Bank, European Union, USAID, and UNDP to evaluate and develop projects for the local communities in Jordan. In 2010, she received her Certificate of International Developmental Evaluation from the World Bank and Carleton University, and in 2012, she received her Certificate of International Leadership from the Department of State.

After a brief period in Jordan, Dr. Qudisat returned to UVU in March 2022 as the Program Director of Diversity and Inclusion in the Office of Inclusion and was quickly appointed as the Interim Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer (CIDO). She was officially appointed as the permanent CIDO in October 2022. By building on existing equity, inclusion, and diversity work across the university and adopting a bottom-up approach, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity expanded the support for UVU's communities. With the landmark growth of the office and certain legislation becoming effective, the Office of Institutional Engagement and Effectiveness (IEE) was born. The IEE Office acquired a new data team and is keen to keep UVU a place for everyone! Dr. Qudisat is the executive sponsor and chair of the University Planning and Advisory Committee (UPAC); the executive sponsor of the Campus Engagement Committee (CEC); the chair of the Campus Climate Committee; and serves on the Bias Education Support Team.

Matt is the Associate Vice President of Marketing at Utah Valley University. Matt is a supporter for cross communication and breaking down silos to better organizations holistically. Matt has over a decade of experience proving results in digital marketing and communications, and has experience working with non-profit organizations, global corporations, startup companies, and higher education institutions. In addition to his role at UVU, Matt is a board member for the Heart Home Foundation, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to helping families and children who have congenital heart disease. Matt is from `Aiea, Hawaii, and a proud Native Hawaiian. He also loves cookies.

Dr. Laurie Sharp is the Sr. Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Assessment, and Accreditation at UVU. Laurie is also the Accreditation Liaison Officer for UVU with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Previous to UVU, Laurie worked in higher education at Tarleton State University, West Texas A&M University, and Tarrant County Community College and K-12 school districts in Texas and Florida. Laurie earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Tarleton State University and a Master of Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from University of Central Florida.

Dr. Andrew Stone has over a decade of experience in recruitment, retention, and enrollment management. In his current role as Associate Vice President of Student Experience and Enrollment Management at Utah Valley University (UVU) he oversees the development and deployment of UVU's SEM and Completion plans. His tenure in higher education leadership includes serving as the Dean of Enrollment Development at Mesa Community College and previously as the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management at UVU.

As a dedicated professional, he is deeply committed to removing barriers for students, enhancing the student experience, and fostering student success. As a strategic leader he has led the development of dozens of strategies and initiatives to shape recruitment and enrollment efforts and to optimize student success at UVU. He holds both an Associate and Bachelor's degree from UVSC & UVU, followed by a Masters of Educational Leadership & Policy and Ph.D from the University of Utah. When not at work he enjoys golf, cycling, the Sacramento Kings, and hanging out with family.

Scott Trotter is the senior director of Public Relations at Utah Valley University, where he manages the university’s external communication efforts to enhance its public image and foster community engagement. In this role, Trotter oversees the development and execution of media strategies, crisis communications, and cultivates relationships with reporters, producers, and stakeholders. Before joining UVU, Trotter had an extensive career with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 1999 to 2005, he served as a church media spokesman in New York City, where he worked with national and international reporters and news crews. He was also deeply involved in ambassadorial outreach, engaging with diplomats at the United Nations to advance the church’s global mission. Following his tenure in New York, Trotter continued his work at church headquarters from 2005 to 2017, where he further honed his skills as a media spokesman, overseeing communications strategies and enhancing public understanding of the church’s activities and initiatives.

Andrea is an experienced educator and instructional coach with a focused in Education Technology. At Microsoft, Andrea empowers educators and educational institutions to embrace GenAI with Copilot and maximize the potential of Microsoft 365 for both instruction and productivity. She has spearheaded prompt-a-thons across the United States, driving innovation and collaboration among educators. President Astrid Tuminez

Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez (pronounced too-MEE-nez) was appointed the seventh president of Utah Valley University in 2018. Born in a farming village in the Philippine province of Iloilo, she moved with her parents and siblings to the slums of Iloilo City when she was 2 years old, her parents seeking better educational opportunities for their children.

Her pursuit of education eventually took her to the United States, where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in international relations and Russian literature from Brigham Young University (1986). She later earned a master's degree from Harvard University in Soviet Studies (1988) and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in political science (1996). Before UVU, President Tuminez was an executive at Microsoft, where she led corporate, external, and legal affairs in Southeast Asia. She also served as vice dean of research at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. She has worked in philanthropy and venture capital in New York City and is a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She serves on the boards of Carnegie Corporation of New York and Cambia Health Solutions, and on the advisory board of Zions Bank. She is the author of Russian Nationalism Since 1856: Ideology and the Making of Foreign Policy and many other publications. She and her husband, Jeffrey S. Tolk, have three children. In her spare time, she enjoys running, dancing, and traveling.

Laura Zemp is District Director of Enterprise Analytics and Strategy for Maricopa County Community College District in Phoenix, Arizona. Her pronouns are she/her/hers. Laura and her team provide data and analysis for strategic planning and various operational units across a district, which supports 10 independently accredited community colleges and serves over 140,000 students each year. Prior to moving to Arizona for this position, Laura was Senior Assistant Commissioner for Data Governance and Analytics at the Utah System of Higher Education where she and her team collected and analyzed data for all 16 public institutions in Utah. Laura’s past experience includes working at institutions, and she worked for LDS Business College (now Ensign College) where she streamlined campus data collection and reporting, developed rubrics for assessment of soft skills, and served as the Accreditation Liaison Officer which allowed her to work with all areas of the college. She enjoys collaborating across agencies and institutions to improve systems for students through the use of data. Laura has a Master’s of Science in Educational Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she studied measurement and cognition while working with nontraditional students in the Women’s Center.
