Rexie and Johanna - Northwestern Mutual
In last week’s 1Million Cups presentation, two heuristic women representing Northwestern Mutual gave an insightful introduction to their initial recruiting process.
Though the presentation was not a pitch for an idea or a project, Rexie and Johanna presented a wonderful opportunity for entrepreneurs to step into the world of owning their own practice and small business. Their search for those with an entrepreneurial mindset draws them to seek for Utah locals who find satisfaction in cultivating their own endeavor that they can be proud of. Northwestern Mutual trains entrepreneurs to become financial advisors and helps them start their own practice that can eventually become their own business. As Rexie and Johanna explained, it is a way for people to jump into starting their own business without much risk with the help and resources of Northwestern Mutual.
Rexie, a UVU alumni, used to work at the Business Resource Center consulting with small businesses and aiding them in their development. After spending ample time with the development of her own ventures, a boutique salon and a concert series, she realized her passion for helping others with their goals and dreams.
Johanna graduated with a degree in sociology as she also liked being around others who needed her help. With the assistance of her friends, she was able to make a dramatic change in her life journey toward entrepreneurship, landing her a recruitment job with Northwestern Mutual.
It is no surprise that both Rexie and Johanna’s inspiration to help others realize their dreams comes from the two people who have impacted their lives. Rexie was inspired by Camille Pendleton, a small business advisor for the SBDC, who urged her to do whatever it was that she could dream of. Johanna finds inspiration in the hard work and service of her boss Mike, who finds delight in mentoring financial advisors and creating a work environment suited for the entrepreneurial individual.
Given their experience drawing in entrepreneurs for Northwestern Mutual, both Rexie and Johanna share their advice for those looking to start their own venture.
Though it may be said a thousand times, Rexie stresses that determination and hard work, especially in the beginning, is key to realizing your dreams.
Johanna, entering the entrepreneurial world from a different position, advises finding a good mentor that wants to help you grow.
