Shad Woodland - MakeUtah
Shad Woodland, a co-worker at UVU’s Business Resource Center, is the proud founder of MakeUtah which is set to become Utah’s flagship innovation center. Inspired by his father along with his childhood experiences, Shad intends to create a space for those who love to dream and think big.
As a child, Shad’s father had created an open-shop at the high school he worked at for students to create or tinker with their projects. He had been surrounded by expensive machinery and ever changing ideas. He realized how cool it was to grow up this way and later, he would understand the impact this had on his journey toward MakeUtah.
From his father to his close friend who took a few years to get his idea created, and even Shad himself had wished that there was a place for them to develop their ideas and learn from experts who could help them build and fine-tune their product ideas. MakeUtah intends to solve these problems by giving engineers and innovators a space to create, share ideas, co-work with others, and the chance to learn from those more experienced.
With this in mind, he hopes that he can establish MakeUtah in northern Salt Lake as a non-profit. Shad wishes for many entrepreneurs across the country to have something like MakeUtah accessible to them and with the help of the advisors working in the BRC building, he believes he can make that true someday.
Word of advice for starting your own business:
Find something you are willing to go the distance with and something that is fulfilling.
