On November 4 we gathered at Utah Valley University (UVU) to support the Orem-Lindon Rotary club in their annual “Coats for Kids” service project. This initiative, dedicated to assisting title I schools in the Orem and Lindon Areas, aims to provide warmth and support to children from low income families by raising funds to purchase coats. Title I schools serve students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, so these contributions play a crucial role in meeting the needs of children who may otherwise lack access to essential winter clothing.

Our participation extended beyond coat donations. Together, we assembled various kits for Samaritan’s Purse, a global humanitarian organization known for its work in providing emergency relief to people in need. The kids included hygiene essentials, baby supplies and clothes and other necessities that will reach vulnerable populations. These efforts will provide much needed support for those facing hardship, particularly as they navigate challenging situations without basic resources.

The service project allowed us not only to make a positive impact in our community but also to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by many families in our local area. By putting together hygiene bags, baby kits and other resources, we contributed to initiatives that reflect UVU’S and UIMF’S commitment to fostering service, compassion, and a sense of community.

Engaging in activities like “Coats for Kids” allows me to experience firsthand the impact that collective action can have, especially for younger children in need, this event was a meaningful opportunity for us to connect with others, lend a helping hand and support to vulnerable populations, and strengthen our community through acts of kindness and service.
