Last year Rotarians together with the UVU Rotaractors planted trees in Nielson Grove Park in the Orem City, which was founded in 1880 and it is the oldest park in Utah. Like in previous case, Lindon administration pre-dug the holes for trees in preparation for the service project in order for Rotarians to place and plant the trees.  The tree planting project is a chapter in the Utah Rotary’s Environmental Protection Initiative. Half the funds from a matching grant given by the Utah Trees non-profit organization were used to plant 7 trees this time in Lindon.

To start the project, Dean Robinson, an Orem-Lindon Rotarian, gave an overview of what kind of trees to plant, which specific holes are prepared for which trees, how to plant them and then accomplish the task.

Before planting the trees, Rotarians removed branches and trash and any other debris. They worked together to take the trees out of planters, deepen holes, and move the trees to cover roots with soil adequately. After the trees were planted, they were properly watered.

Dr. Rusty Butler ( R ) joined Orem-Lindon Rotarians to plant trees

23 Rotarians participated in this important service project. Among them was also Dr. Rusty Butler, former Vice President of Utah Valley University and currently the main representative at the United Nations of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council. It was an opportunity for both to be engaged in service and to express appreciation to Orem-Lindon Rotarians for their strong support and sponsorship for the visits of the UVU Rotaractors to the United Nations.
