Utah Valley University Students prepare to host 13th annual International Mountain Day Observation

On December 6, 2022, UVU students prepare to observe 13th annual International Mountain Day

Utah Valley University (UVU) Sustainable Mountain Development Club will host the 13th annual International Mountain Day celebration Tuesday, December 6th, 2022. Sustainable Mountain Development is part of a coalition of student clubs at UVU called the Utah International Mountain Forum (UIMF).

The theme for this exciting event is defined by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations as “Women Move Mountains”.

The tentative agenda of the event will include:

  • Introductory remarks by Joshua Kooyman, President of the Sustainable Mountain Club at UVU, Scripting Manager of the UVU podcast “In the Interest of National Security”, National Security Student at UVU
  • Greetings from Dr. Baldomero Lago, Chief International Officer at UVU
  • Greetings from Dr. Rusty Butler, Main Representative to the United Nations, Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, a non-governmental organization in general consultative status under ECOSOC,
  • Jokodu Jada (Winnie), Political Science/Global Politics Student, UVU Rotaract
  • Handen Torsak, Foreign Affairs Club Member at UVU
  • Priyanka Prem Kumar, Research analyst - Sustainable Food systems, AI for Rural, India
  • Stephan Atkinson, President of the Foreign Affairs Club at UVU
  • Rachel Welker, Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Club at UVU
  • Concluding Remarks from Alitha Thompson, UIMF President

The event will take place at LA-116 on UVU Campus from 10:00-11:30 am, December 6th, 2022. The event will also be streamed on Zoom. The Link for Zoom attendance is here:

UVU Sustainable Mountain Development is pleased to invite students and faculty of UVU as well as the local community to join in celebrating International Mountain Day.

The event will be hosted by UVU Sustainable Mountain Development as a student engaged learning model, where members of the club will gain professional skills by addressing real-world problems as a group with a faculty serving them as a mentor.
