Students designed a custom tracked vehicle for a Utah company. This electric vehicle (EV) is used on construction sites and can safely carry thousands of pounds through narrow doorways. The students had less than nine months to practice iterative mechanical design, wire and test electrical hardware, and write and refine the logic programs. They chose industrial-grade PLCs for electronic reliability and applied principles of feedback control for exceptional speed regulation over hills and rough terrain. During their senior year in UVU's Mechatronics program, students do more than just build; they also document their projects. They create professional documentation, including mechanical CAD drawings, electrical schematics, bills of materials, and program listings.
'Iron Haul' is one of the many successful projects recently completed by students in UVU’s Mechatronics department. Please check out some of other recent projects at the link below. We welcome your input. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring a nine-month project, please reach out to us!
